Dear Eagle Nation:
Students, faculty, staff, and alumni gathered with me in Washington, D.C. at the HQ House by The Burn Brothers for a fireside chat that was truly special. This unique event brought together a diverse group of individuals, all sharing a common interest in promoting inclusivity and diversity in the worlds of film and television.

The highlight of the evening was a captivating conversation with John Gibson, the Vice President of External and Multicultural Affairs at the Motion Picture Association. As attendees settled in, we delved into a thought-provoking discussion about the urgent issue of the underrepresentation of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the film and TV industry.

Our journey didn't end with the event itself. Our time in Washington, D.C. ignited a spark for ongoing collaboration and advocacy. We are 16 days away from Celebrating the Class of 2024!
Commencement rehearsals are scheduled for Wednesday, May 8 at 1 p.m. and Thursday, May 16 at 6 p.m. at the Library Quad. Graduates should plan to attend one rehearsal, to review ceremony logistics and have their questions answered.
Note: You must attend one of the scheduled rehearsals.

How to Share Your Commencement Tickets
Tickets were issued electronically (smartphone required) on Monday, April 15. Each candidate will receive eight (8) tickets. Additional tickets may be requested by emailing commencement@coppin.edu and may become available after Thursday, May 2.
After you have logged in and claimed your tickets:
- Select 'my tickets'.
- Select the '+' symbol next to 'General Admission'.
- Select 'Print', 'Email', or 'Text'.

Don't miss out on your chance to enroll in summer and fall classes! The last day to register is Thursday, May 2.
Also, take advantage of the Summer SOAR Program; it allows qualifying students to earn up to six (6) free credit hours in the summer.

Under the direction of Dr. Ron Williams, Coppin State University’s Center for Strategic Entrepreneurship (CSE) proudly hosted the 2024 Economic Inclusion Conference at Coppin on Thursday, April 25. This vibrant event, themed "Youth Entrepreneurship: Pathways to Economic Empowerment," provided a dynamic platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to engage with seasoned veterans in the field.

Throughout the conference, attendees immersed themselves in concurrent sessions designed to equip them with invaluable insights. Topics ranged from grant writing essentials to navigating youth-funded entrepreneur programs, all aimed at fostering a more inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem. Participants explored the requirements and strategies crucial for broadening pathways and ensuring equitable participation in the entrepreneurial landscape.

The interactive learning laboratory was a highlight for high school and college students, offering hands-on experiences guided by a diverse group of mentors. These mentors included accomplished alumni, seasoned entrepreneurs, and dedicated undergraduate researchers involved in the Excellence in Entrepreneurial Learning (EXCEL) research project.

Sela Sunshine, a young entrepreneur from Baltimore, has been crafting jewelry, art, and doll clothing since the age of nine. Now at 18, she's still passionately painting and handcrafting jewelry.
"There is alot going on in the world, my art is a way to express myself while making others happy," Sela shares.

The inaugural cohort of the Business-Higher Education Forum (BHEF) Faculty Innovation Fellowship, held at the Institute for Marine and Environmental Technology in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Thursday April 25 through Friday, April 26, brought together BHEF Fellows from 13 institutions across 10 states. These fellows represent a diverse array of disciplines, including business and hospitality, nursing, and social sciences. Representing Coppin is Lori Harvin, DNP MSN FNP-BC RN CNE, Associate Professor and Interim Chairperson of Baccalaureate Nursing.

Here at Coppin State University, we are deeply committed to student success. We seek to increase access to opportunities and remove barriers that could prevent students from obtaining their degree. The Private Donor Awards Scholarship Program helps lessen the financial burden on students to increase student enrollment, retention, and graduation rates. Assistance is available to students who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need, thanks to our generous donors who support the Coppin State University Development Foundation. Students are eligible if they are:
- Currently Enrolled undergraduate or graduate students
- Part-time or full-time status
- Seeking a degree
- Maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.2
