June Trustee Update – Upcoming Consultations
Friends, this is a quick update to let you know about public consultations at the TDSB, including for the new mobile device policy in schools, which I have championed.
First, I wish to acknowledge the grief and rage members of our community are feeling over the tragic death of Landyn Ferris in an Ontario school. A warning that the details are disturbing, a weblink for context is here. Parents in our community have been fighting this government for years to increase autism and special needs supports inside and outside of schools. People For Education has just released a report on the gaps in special education here To support advocacy and action, please join and follow the Ontario Autism Coalition:
A new provincial education minister was announced in a cabinet shuffle yesterday, and as you may be aware the Director of the TDSB has announced she will be retiring later this year. There seems to be nothing more constant than change, but our community’s advocacy for public education and supports for children is needed more than ever. A big thank you to everyone who is fighting for our public schools.
We are in a very busy month of board meetings, and I am working very hard to represent the views and values of our community in what are sometimes difficult discussions.
Alongside the heavier work I am finding joy in reconnecting at area funfairs and pride events.
Happy Pride Season Toronto-Danforth, and please take care,
Sara Ehrhardt
TDSB Trustee, Toronto-Danforth
