COVID-19 symptoms? Stay home, seek testing
A reminder that students who are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 should stay home and seek testing. If you are awaiting a COVID-19 test result, please do not go to class until you receive a negative test result.
Remaining home while symptomatic and/or while you are awaiting a test result is a great way to protect the health and well-being of your friends, classmates and instructors.

Have you recently tested positive or been diagnosed with COVID-19? Submit a self-report to assist the UWM COVID-19 Support Team in conducting efficient contact tracing.

Latinx Heritage Month 2021 – Salsa dancing, creative brainstorming, festivals, open mic, and more! Activities still happening from Tuesday, September 28th through Tuesday, November 2nd
Latinx Heritage Month at UWM is coordinated by a team of campus stakeholders offering a variety of programs that recognize and celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of people of Latinx, Afro-Latinx, Chicanx, Latin American, Caribbean, Spanish and Indigenous descent in the United States. National Latinx Heritage Month has been observed from September 15th to October 15th in the U.S. since 1988. It takes place during this time period to honor the independence days of several countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile, as well as Día de la Raza, a significant cultural celebration observed in Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Uruguay and Venezuela. To register for these events and obtain more information, please visit their events page

EAC Open Lab – “Managing Students Concerns and Crises with the Dean of Students Office” – available online on Wednesday, October 13th from 12pm-1pm via Teams

“Budgeting for Beginners” – register by Monday, October 18th, event taking place on Wednesday, October 20th from 4:30-5:30pm
Presented as a part of the Graduate Student Wellness Series with UWM’s Financial Aid Office and UWM’s Graduate School. This session is a starting point for graduate students interested in learning basics for budgeting. We will discuss different budgeting categories, apps to use to assist in the budgeting process, and personalized budgeting strategies based on submitted information. There will be a Qualtrics survey that we will send out ahead of the session to gauge what attendees are looking to gain from our session. Lead by Cynthia Reindl, M.S., Senior Financial Aid Advisor. A Tea Ceremony and Community Conversation with Jeff Champeau | October 8 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am
This month, Social Good Morning and Well Entrepreneur partner up to bring you a unique brew of social innovation, conscious culture, and wellness with Jeff Champeau, Vice President of Business Development at Rishi Tea and Botanicals.

There will be networking and a tea tasting for the first 30 minutes, followed by a matcha tea ceremony run by guests from Rishi Tea. Response Corps Members will be directly involved in the COVID-19 response in specified communities in Wisconsin, performing a range of duties based on skills and experience and driven by response needs at the local level. The Public Health Specialist is an integral member of the WI COVID-19 Response Corps, working alongside public health and allied workers in their placement community and participating in a cohort of other Response Corps members across the state. Response Corps Members are tiered based on skills, qualifications and years of experience and positions are developed based on the expressed needs from each LTHD.

Program Manager I | Medical College of Wisconsin | Milwaukee, WI
The Collaborative Work Groups’ Program Manager will play an essential role in the Collaborative Work Groups to Reduce Cancer Disparities in Wisconsin funded project. This project facilitates diverse and varied teams from community and research disciplines through a collaborative process to cultivate a deeper understanding of a specific topic related to breast or lung cancer, leading to the development of an integrated action plan to reduce disparities. The Program Manager will work with the project’s Co-Principal Investigators and community partner organizations to advance the aims of the state-wide grant, build and maintain relationships with current and future partners, communicate key information about the project, and manage key grant and project administration.

AHEC Project Specialist | Milwaukee Area Health Education Center | Milwaukee, WI 
Overview
The Milwaukee AHEC Project Specialist will work closely with leadership and the departmental team to provide assistance in the efficient rollout, coordination, and evaluation of the grant-funded Integrated Public Health Nursing Training & Education Program. The incumbent in this position also provides resources and coaching for nursing students and newly hired public health nurses within local health departments. This position will work closely with project partners to address any issues/barriers to yield successful training, planning and completion of programs for targeted populations.

Essential Functions:
Program Management
  • Plan, coordinate, and ensure follow-up service delivery for nursing student program participants per partner guidelines. Provide orientation and professional development programs, coaching, and linkages to external resources for nursing student program participants.
  • Provide support in the management of project(s) curriculum development & review.
  • Collaborate with external and internal providers regarding current and potential nursing student needs regarding public health field placements.
  • Provide outreach and community education to nursing students/faculty and external providers regarding the importance of public health nursing as a viable career path.
  • Serve as a liaison between nursing students & faculty and external providers; maintain ongoing collaboration with local health departments, academic institutions, and other regional/statewide public health agencies.
Community Collaboration
  • Function as a professional resource for the Integrated Public Health Nurse Training & Education project to local public health agencies, local academic institutions, and community-based agencies with public health focus.
  • Participate in subcommittees, workgroups, and tasks forces associated public health
  • Assist in the development and implementation of community awareness activities regarding public health nursing to ensure the community and health providers are aware of the Integrated Public Health Nurse Training & Education program offered to nursing students.
Data Management & Reporting
  • Organize partner agreements and administration of schedules o Compile and prepare program compliance reports and summaries on a monthly basis.
  • Provide collaborative communication to academic institution and project partners staff regarding status/performance of nursing student participants. Compile and process program participation (completion/incompletes) records and disseminate to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist the project with developing, maintaining and communicating policy, procedures, and protocols.
Required Education and Experience 
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Wisconsin at time of appointment and maintained throughout employment.
  • 5 years of Public Health Nursing experience
  • Valid driver’s license at time of appointment and throughout employment and the availability of a properly-insured personal vehicle for use on the job (automobile allowance provided).

The Tennessee Department of Health's Division of Family Health and Wellness (FHW) is hiring an Epidemiologist 1 in Nashville, TN. This position will be responsible for grant management as well as quantitative and qualitative data collection, management, analysis and visualization for the Maternal and Child Health Block Grant.

Wisconsin AHEC Scholars
A two-year program designed to enhance and broaden a student’s healthcare training. Each year as an AHEC Scholar, you’ll participate in a combination of didactic and community-based experiential training in a Wisconsin rural community and/or with underserved populations.

Applications are now being accepted for healthcare students graduating in 2023.

Medical College of Wisconsin Doctor of Public Health
MCW’s completely online, CEPH-accredited DrPH program is the first of its kind in Wisconsin and is designed to equip public health professionals with the competencies and experience needed to lead community health improvement efforts. The MCW DrPH team will cover the following topics during the open house:

Latinx Heritage Month - 2021
Latinx is an inclusive term used to include all gendered and non-gendered identities of peoples with Latin American ancestry. “Latinx” specifically refuses to further silence and erase trans (non-binary and binary), gender non-conforming, non-binary, and genderqueer people.
National Depression Screening Day is Oct. 7
Have you ever wondered what depression is or if you’ve ever experienced it?

UWM is participating in National Depression Screening Day on Oct. 7. If you feel like you have been experiencing increased irritability, mood shifts or increased anxiety or stress, we encourage you to get a mental health check-up by completing an online screening. Upon screening, students are welcome to schedule a Let’s Talk consultation to discuss their results with a UCS professional. UCS will be adding additional Let’s Talk opportunities the week of Oct. 7. In situations involving alcohol or other drug overuse or impairment, it’s important that students look out for one another. Students can help an overly intoxicated person without getting into trouble, if they follow UWM's policy. The university's Alcohol & Other Drug and Victim Assistance policy states that students who do all of the following will not face university disciplinary action or UWM Police citations for underage alcohol and/or other drug use
  • Call for help when you notice signs of over-intoxication or overdose.
  • Stay with the person.
  • Cooperate with emergency personnel and/or university staff.
  • Please do your part to keep everyone in our community safe: call, stay and cooperate.
