Request for Information (RFI): Identifying the Next Generation of NSF X-Labs Topics |
The NSF has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking input on scientific and technological opportunities that could become future topics for the NSF X-Labs Initiative. Organizations, researchers, faculty, and students are invited to give input regarding what future technology or technological capability NSF should focus on for future X-Labs topics; bottlenecks to proposed topics and how to unlock future progress; readiness and evidence for proposed topics; reasoning, resources, and partnerships for proposed topics; and what disagreement or failure of proposed topics might look like.
Note: NSF will input all responses into AI tools during the evaluation process, and may publicly release responses. Please do not submit any proprietary, sensitive, classified, export-controlled, or personally identifiable information, since they may publicly release the responses.
Deadline: Anyone who is interested in responding directly to NSF as an individual may do so via the airtable form on the NSF website by October 30, 2026.
