Office of Student Veterans
Dear student veterans,
Welcome to our new students and welcome back to those who are starting another academic year here at Duke! Wherever you are in your Duke journey, the Office of Student Veterans and the Division of Student Affairs is thrilled to be a resource for you. We can assist in transitions, connect you to Duke-specific and off-campus resources, and support you in all of your endeavors.
You are receiving this email because you are part of Duke's military-affiliated community, which includes active duty, veterans, reservists, and dependents. Throughout the academic year, we will send newsletters with office updates, events, opportunities to get connected with Duke and the larger Durham community, and more!
This email provides five key items of note:

2) Upcoming events – Wednesday, 28 August & Saturday, 7 September
3) Graduate assistantship available
4) University and community resources

This opportunity is designed for new students or those who haven’t yet connected with our office and community resources. Colleagues from across Duke and Durham, including representatives from the Registrar’s Office (VA benefits & certification), Veterans Affairs (healthcare), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Office of Student Veterans, DuWell (Duke wellness and health promotion), and others will be in attendance to answer any student veteran specific questions. Free t-shirts and refreshments will be provided, along with the opportunity to meet fellow veterans.
Opening Hail
Saturday, 7 September, 1400 – 1600

We would also like to extend an invitation to you, your partner, and children to an opening Hail, a traditional military event whereby those coming to the organization are celebrated. 3) Graduate assistantship available
Our fearless graduate assistant, Anna Page, will be graduating in December. For those of you who don’t know Anna, she has been instrumental in creating and maintaining partnerships across campus, helping launch our office, and building community within the military-affiliated student body at Duke. She will be dearly missed by all. With her impending departure, we are looking for a new graduate assistant!
To facilitate a smooth transition, we intend for this new graduate assistant to overlap with Anna for much of the fall semester. We welcome any full-time graduate students to apply for this part-time, paid position! The position description can be found here. To apply, please send your resume and an email of interest to veterans@studentaffairs.duke.edu. Priority deadline: 26 August, 2019.
4) University and community resources
Additional resources and information about student support for veterans can be found on the Student Veteran website and specifically, here: https://studentaffairs.duke.edu/veterans/campus-and-community-resources.
