New Funds Available

PDC is pleased to announce new funds that can help you with your professional development. These supplement the Webinar Fund, which continues this fiscal year. Funds are available to all staff, unless noted below. Funds are collective (everyone uses until the fiscal year allocation runs out). Funds can be requested on the Funding tab of the PDC Libguide.
  • Course Support Fund  This fund supports workshops and online courses that will help you in your day-to day job duties. Credit coursework is not eligible. $1000 is available for all requests this fiscal year.
  • Research Support Fund This fund supports items (marketing, incentives, etc.) that will assist you in your professional research. Librarians are eligible for this fund. $1000 is available for all requests this fiscal year.
  • Speaker and Sage Fund This fund supports expenses associated with bringing in outside speakers that will share their perspectives, views, and operations from other libraries or departments. $1500 is available for all requests this fiscal year.

Professional Development Books

PDC again has money available to purchase books for professional development. Want to learn more about a certain concept or skill? Request the book via this form. Any library staff member can request a book to be purchased. Note that the form is always available on the PDC Libguide (Professional Development Collection tab).
A few changes to note going forward:
  • We have canceled the ALA standing order. So if you would like a publication from ALA, REQUEST IT!
  • Requested books do not have to be explicitly related to libraries. If there is a book about change management or a new software package that is relevant to your job, request it!
  • If a book is available electronically, it will be purchased in that format, unless you indicate otherwise.

New Name: Discretionary Prof Dev Funds

(for Librarians and Unclassified Staff)
They have been called 'travel funds' forever. Until today.  Travel funds have been rechristened as 'discretionary prof dev funds' in accordance with a change in philosophy and rules regarding the funds.
The funds are discretionary, which means you decide how to use them during the fiscal year (not so new). However, these funds can be used for items that require travel (conferences, offsite workshops, meetings, etc.) AND they can also be used for non-travel items (online courses, certifications, etc.)
Approval is still needed, and forms are available on the PDC Libguide. (Look for the subtab "Discretionary Funds" under Funding". Note that there is a different form for items requiring travel and those not requiring travel.

Mentoring!

PDC wants to thank everyone who participated in the mentoring workshop on August 8.  All materials are available on the PDC Libguide. For those unable to attend, another session will be offered during Winter Term.
For those who plan to start a mentoring relationship, please remember to fill out the mentoring contract and submit it. Submission is via the PDC Libguide. You must have attended a mentoring workshop to participate.
