Congratulations to the 2022 Graduates! Doctoral students celebrated their graduation on Thursday, May 12 and valedictory students celebrated their graduation on Friday, May 20. Graduates from the classes of 2020 and 2021 also had the opportunity to gather and celebrate their belated graduation on May 18 and 20. We commend you on your scholarship and wish you the best in your future academic and career endeavors.

Steinhardt School Awards

Aliya Syed (left) received the Pi Lambda Theta Rho Award which celebrates excellence in academic achievement and leadership. Dory Gurinsky (right) receivedthe Arch Award which acknowledges a unique record of service to students, staff, and faculty.

Department Awards

Leticia Lynch (left) and Finley Peay (right) recieved the Outstanding Scholarship Award for their dedication to scholarship, leadership, and service to the department, university, and broader community.

Master's Program Awards

Ashley Rivera (left) and Eunisha Tucker (right) received the Professionalism Award for their demonstration of integrity and excellence in the workplace.

Amos Joseph (left) and Ariel Lopez-Cueva (right) received the Community Building Award for their commitment to promoting community inclusion.

Laura Gomez (left) and Erika Reyes (right) received the Service to the Field Award for their engagement and contributions to the field of higher education.

Marie Castro (left) received the Leadership Award for her commitment to leadership and field of higher education. David Morales (right) received the Exemplary Student Award for his superlative contributions to the program.

Study Abroad Programs Return

Professor Erich Detrich, above with Carlos Alberto Mederios, led a group of students to Brazil in June in order to study affirmative action.

Professor Teboho Moja will lead a program to South Africa in July to study education reform, and Professors Marcus and Moja will lead a program Türkiye in J-Term 2023 to study their higher education system.

Applications for the Türkiye course will be available in August 2022 here.

Honoring Professor Frances Stage

After more than 20 years, Professor Frances Stage has announced her retirement. Her research has focused on college student development for STEM majors and college access and success for underrepresented students. Administration, Leadership, and Technology Department Chair, Prof. Teboho Moja remarked that “Professor Stage's highly regarded scholarship in the field serves as testimony to her hard work and care in encouraging students and colleagues. Her contributions have been recognized widely by major organizations such as Association for Higher Education Research and American Educational Research Association."

LOOP Leadership Transition

We are pleased to introduce our new LOOP editor, Alana Cohen, who has served ably as Assistant Editor this past year; we look forward to her new outreach and ideas.

Great thanks to Finley Peay who has been Editor this past 12 months during one of the most challenging times for our university; she brought consistent energy and creativity to the task of creating community for our program and its many constituents.
