Homecoming 2024

CSUDH's Homecoming festivities have concluded. Starting with a spirited banner decorating contest on February 12, students infused Toro pride into the East walkway alongside food and giveaways. A lively kickoff ceremony ushered in Homecoming Week, offering entertainment and more giveaways. Creative office decorations from campus departments added to the festive vibe.
Students explored opportunities to engage further with the campus during the Club & Organization Involvement Fair, and student scholars shared research projects at the Student Research Conference. A dynamic Yard Show by Delta Sigma Theta showcased our Toro talent, and thrilling athletic competitions in Softball, Women's, and Men's basketball against Sonoma State University capped off the celebration, uniting the CSUDH community in Toro spirit.

CLASS NOTES
Recent accomplishments of fellow Toros.
Tyais Dial (BS ‘06) is the new principal for Spangdahlem High School in Germany within the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) - Europe West District. She has worked as a DoDEA teacher and administrator and has held various positions in Southern California, such as public school teacher, paraprofessional, administrative assistant, WorkAbility Job Development teacher for Special Education Students, and Executive Assistant for the Superintendent of Educational Services.
David Dumais (BS ‘83) has been the Fire Chief of the City of Torrance since December 2022. Over the last 36 years, has served as a Firefighter, Fire Investigator, Firefighter Paramedic, Fire Engineer, and Fire Captain for the Torrance Fire Department. Chief Dumais has been a member of the City’s Emergency Preparation Advisory Team working in the areas of emergency management, EOC activation, secondary EOC development, exercise design and planning, hazard mitigation planning, and critical Infrastructure identification. He is an adjunct Fire Technology instructor at El Camino College and was recently appointed to represent the California Fire Chiefs’ Association as the Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) Forum Board representative for Southern California.

IN MEMORIAM
Maria De Fatima S. Manning (BA ‘21) passed at the age of 91 on Jan. 22, 2024. She was 88 when she received her degree. Ms. Manning was a student on campus from 1996 – 2021, having attended CSUDH off and on for 25 years. Maria was a Liberal Arts major/Spanish minor and could often be found in the lobby of the library waiting for her next class.
