This year has been tragic for many reasons, and principal among them in Philadelphia is an increase in gun violence. Many cities across the country are seeing end-of-year spikes in gun violence, and the city of Philadelphia maintains that just one shooting is too many. Penn Updates

While this year has been exceptionally challenging, it has also showcased the bravery, resilience, and compassion of indviduals and groups who take it upon themselves to rise up in times of need. This week we are highlighting Penn Today's spotlight on "Side Gigs for Good," including a family’s quest to add diversity to a bone marrow registry, a professor who fostered kittens when volunteers were scarce, and a scholar assisting asylum-seekers by acting as a translator.
