UWM WiscAMP STEM Inspire Program

The UWM WiscAMP STEM Inspire Program is accepting applications from enrolled freshman through senior students for the 2021-2022 cohort. Students at all three UW-Milwaukee campuses who are underrepresented minorities majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math field are eligible. All application materials are due by July 1, 2021 at 4:30 pm. Read more

UWM expands help for new students transitioning from virtual high school

Because many graduating high school students attended their senior year in a virtual learning environment, they may need additional help transitioning to college. UWM is expanding the number of students it can accommodate in its first-year bridge program and offering a second option for incoming freshmen who need to acclimate to college: a two-week summer program taken before the start of the students’ freshman year. Funding renewed for NANOgrav Center which includes UWM

An international team of astronomers, including several from UWM, have renewed funding from the National Science Foundation for their work in detecting and characterizing low-frequency gravitational waves, a transformational challenge in astrophysics.

The NSF has awarded a $17 million grant over five years to the North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav) for operation of the NANOGrav Physics Frontiers Center (PFC). Read more

New for the upcoming season will be a $99 Gold Access Pass, which gives fans access and a ticket to each home game. The 12-month subscription payment plan consists of only $8 per month and seat locations will be assigned to pass holders 48 hours prior to tip-off. 

Outreach projects help vulnerable families catch up on health after pandemic

An educational campaign in Milwaukee is reaching out to low-income families with young children who may have put off doctor’s appointments during the COVID-19 pandemic and are under considerable stress from long-term isolation. Kris Barnekow, associate professor of health sciences, is leading the two outreach projects in Milwaukee with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Read more
