From the Ranch House

Home Improvement Application Process
Spring is here and sunny skies combined with warm temperatures make exterior improvements on your home easier to get done. We have had an increase in Home Improvement Application submissions such as raised gardens, fence installation, painting, tree removal, tree planting, roofing projects and more. We love that homes in RVR are getting extra care and attention! For many, this is the first time to navigate the process, click here to learn more about the design review process and how to submit a request.

Furry Friend of The Week
Hey there! I’m Libby! I’m in the Lund pack. There is me and my two two-leggeds, Julie and John. John thinks he is the alpha; but, he’s not. I am. Definitely!
I am a rescue dog. I look a lot like a Miniature Schnaupin, which is a cross between a schnauzer and a pincer. Maybe you have heard of Pluto the Talking Dog? She could be my cousin. Check her out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggGPRJpyNd8
I’m not sure what the miniature part means. Geez, I weigh almost eleven pounds! And I have a BIG personality. Plus, there is certainly nothing TINY about my jobs. I have the HUGE job of guarding the den. There are so many people and pups who pass by on the path. (Fellow four-leggeds: Is there some good sniffing to do on that path or what?)  Plus, there are lots of deer and geese and other critters out there ALL of these could be threats to the pack! So, I’ve found it best to bark and huff at these potential threats, until they get the message. In fact, if you’ve run into me during walks around the loop, I’ve probably yapped at you a little. Sorry, but it takes me a while to make sure someone's not a threat. Then I’m good with you, all good.
My next big job is to NAP. When I am not on guard duty, I am resting up. Give me a soft blankie on a couch and I’ll snooze there for hours. But by far my MOST important job is to hang with the rest of my pack, nuzzling in wherever I can. After all, I am a lap dog!  So, if the two-leggeds are on the couch, I’m right there too. If I can get under the bed covers on a cold morning, I love it! When things really go well, I can even score a belly-rub or a back scratch.
So that’s pretty much it. I guard, I sleep and I cuddle.  Life is good!
We would like to thank Julie and John for sharing Molly with us for our featured Furry Friend of the Week! If you would like your furry friend to be featured, please submit a picture and short bio to Jessica Hennessy: jessica.hennessy@rvrma.org.
Green Tip
Please enjoy the following eco-friendly tidbit brought to you by Friends of the Environment:
The EPA estimates that the average dog creates about 1/3 to 1/2 of a pound of waste per day - or about 121 to 182 pounds per year. With the hundreds of dogs in RVR, that's a lot of poop! Pet waste contains harmful bacteria such as E. Coli and fecal coliform, and nutrients that can cause excessive algae growth in water. Pet waste left on sidewalks, streets, yards or other open areas can be washed away and carried by rainwater or sprinklers into storm drains. The water in the storm drains in RVR goes into a holding pond and eventually it seeps into the ground. Please do your part to help protect our environment by "scooping the poop." There are 45 dog waste stations in RVR so there is no excuse!

Qigong For Better Sleep - Workshop with Cari Shurman
Tuesday, Apr. 5 | 6:30 - 7:45 p.m.

The ancient Chinese practice of Qigong (pronounced chee-gong), is a moving meditation that helps you relax, breathe, visualize and fall asleep. During this special workshop, we will learn why we practice different movements in the morning and the evening, depending on whether we are waking up and getting ready to go or slowing down, ready to sleep and refresh the body. We will do some relaxing movements to encourage energy flow and then lie down for a Qigong meditation. After the class, if you would like to receive the audio of the meditation, it can be requested so you can use it at home whenever you need it. Wear loose clothes so that you can relax. Bring a jacket so you are not cold when we lie still. You may even bring your own blanket and pillow if you'd like. All are welcome. No experience necessary.
