Irrigation Start Up
RVR crews have been working hard to get water available to the RVR community. Residents should expect water to be accessible by the end of next week. Keep a look out for more details on the irrigation start up process in upcoming mailings.
As the sprinklers do fire up, a kind reminder that mother nature is more than capable of providing moisture to your lawn during early spring. RVR endeavors to keep as much water flowing into the rivers as possible and our goal this summer is to establish healthy turf by using the right amount of water. Overwatering leads to shallow root systems which invites invasive weeds, necessitating the need for more fertilizers and chemical combatants. The proper way to water a lawn is thoroughly but infrequently. We are asking that homeowners stop and think when programing their timers and beginning their watering schedule. You can refer to some additional resources on the landscaping page of our website by following this link, or feel free to reach out to Travis with any questions at travis.green@rvrma.org.

Green Tip
Please enjoy the following eco-friendly tidbit brought to you by Friends of the Environment:
Be bear aware! According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, bears typically emerge from their dens in mid-March through May and will remain active until around November. In the coming weeks, as they begin to wake, the search for food is on.
To protect yourself and the bears:
- Put out garbage cans only on the morning of pick-up. Do not put out garbage the night before, even if you have a bear resistant container. Not only is this common bear sense, but it is also required by the RVR Rules and Regulations.
- Place smelly food scraps in the freezer until garbage day.
- Rinse out all cans, bottles and jars so that they are free of food and odors before putting them out for recycling.
- Don’t leave pet food or pet dishes outside.
- Clean outdoor grills after each use; the smell of grease can attract bears.
We all share space with bears. Being aware and respectful of them is the best way to make sure we all stay safe. If you would like to join the Friends of the Environment mailing list, email courtney.eaton@icloud.com.
