CORNUCOPIA AUCTION AND SOCIAL, NOVEMBER 3 - JOIN THE FUN!

Plan for a fun night out with parents and friends of the school, and join us on November 3! From 5-9 PM you’ll marvel at a transformed recital hall, taste savory delicacies and sweet desserts, as well as a variety of libations provided by Provisions in Northampton. Joining Sean Glennon (P22) as a celebrity guest auctioneer will be alumna Sarah Hartshorne ’05, comedian, actor, activist – and a contestant on America’s Top Model!

This community event is a great time to connect with families and friends of The Academy. Bid on beautiful, practical and unusual items offered at auction by generous donors in our broad community – treat yourself or give as gifts. Highlights include Red Sox tickets (Go Sox!), fantastic ceramics, glass, jewelry, and fiber art, amazing wall art, a private wine tasting by Provisions, gift certificates for area restaurants and businesses, the bounty from local farms, and more.

All proceeds support our school’s programs and financial aid, so bid often and bid generously!

Purchase two tickets in advance and bring a friend for free. Childcare (including pizza and activities) is available by advance reservation, too. Click here for both.

(If you're interested in donating a little bit of your time before or during the event, please click here
to fill out a form for auction volunteering!).

CORNUCOPIA AUCTION ITEMS AVAILABLE FOR PROXY BIDDING

Do you have friends or family members who would love to join in the fun of our auction but can't make it in person? Select items are now available to view and consider, and a proxy bid form is live online.

Encourage far-away supporters of our school to take a look at some of the amazing offerings linked here to the bid form. We'll arrange for a volunteer to bid on their behalf, with full completion of the form.

SPORTS RECAP, WEEK OF OCTOBER 22nd

On Wednesday, the Girls Varsity Soccer team lost 2-1 to Stoneleigh Burnham, but the girls really brought their energy to the field. Chessie, who usually plays as a great defender, scored the team's lone goal and had many great shots on net. Calla, who usually plays as a great striker, kept our defense strong and nearly unbreakable. Everyone did a fantastic job of being first to the ball, settling, and communicating throughout the entirety of the game. On Thursday, the girls played hard and tough, and showed drastic improvement since the last game against Four Rivers. In the 3-1 loss, they had several shots on goal from Ruby C, Chessie, Izzy, Elaina GB, and Calla. However, the keeper at Four Rivers had some outstanding saves. Our keeper, Gwen H., also had many great saves. In the last seconds of the match, Calla scored an unbelievable goal just in time for the ref to blow the whistle.

The Boys Varsity team defeated Buxton 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Nico (3), Nat (2), and Gus (2) all scored goals, while Bennet, Harper WW, Nico, and Charlie recorded assists. The team did a great job of passing throughout the game. On Thursday, the boys fell to Four Rivers 4-0. The team played a tough game in cold weather. Alex had a strong game in goal.

Aardvark Cross-Country runners battled a tough course and cold conditions at Putney on Wednesday and everyone had a great race!

The Hiking Club enjoyed a beautiful Wednesday afternoon half-day adventure at Notchview. They began the day at the warming hut withSamosas from the local Sangar store and then followed the black diamond Bumpbustrail from lower Pierce shelter to upper Bates field on top of the world.  Auriel, Elena, Lane, Claire, Everett, Talos, four puppies and Marla had a picture perfect day!

DOES MY VOICE COUNT?
A Presentation on Voting Rights/Voter Suppression -
November 5, 2:15 PM

Parents and friends of The Academy are invited to join us at school for a presentation by Jim Lemkin which documents in pictures the efforts in the 1960s by of a handful of students moved by compassion and the call to action for social justice. In an open public conversation following the slideshow, we will explore the consequences of the elimination of a key provision of the Voting Rights Act in 2013. Special thanks to Becky Houlihan and Izzy S, who introduced us to Jim Lemkin after attending a similar presentation. Read more about his social justice work then and now, here.
