Meet Tracy van der Kuil
Please join us in welcoming the latest addition to our interior design team. A 1997 graduate of Kent State University, Tracy has extensive experience in the design, document production, and project management of a variety of projects across the hospitality, corporate and residential realms. While working towards her Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design, Tracy interned with the Arris Group where she was hired on after graduation. While working on multiple Cleveland Clinic projects and the Middleburg Heights Community Center, Tracy met and worked with Richardson Design’s current Design & Trend Director, Kristie Oldham.

After living in Rotterdam, Holland for four years to be closer to her spouse’s family, Tracy returned to the U.S. in 2005 to work for ASD, a multi-disciplinary design firm. As a project manager she managed many national corporate office projects as well as a 200 site roll out. Joining WMF Inc. in 2008, Tracy worked on many large scale architecture projects including the renovation and addition of Baldwin Wallace’s Boesel Conservatory of Music and the Lord Corporation Aerospace Manufacturing & Corporate Offices.

Tracy’s portfolio also includes the CSU Euclid Commons Welcome Center, Marketing & Parking Offices and the Cuyahoga Community College Wellness Center, among others.

In addition to joining the team here at Richardson Design, Tracy has been consulting with Modern Smart Homes since 2013, where she continues to provide interior design services for the company’s highly efficient, sustainable modern homes. Her experience in the arenas of corporate interiors, healthcare, higher education, recreation centers and high end modern residential design make her a significant asset to the team and we are thrilled to have her on board!

Shaker Height's Van Aken District
We are honored to be a part of the team developing Shaker Height’s new downtown center, the Van Aken District. The first phase of the project is set to open in the fall of 2017, introducing a thriving neighborhood center for the Shaker Heights community that will feature a mix of retail spaces, local businesses, independent restaurants, as well as new apartments and office spaces.
Richardson's focus is the creation of the heart and soul of the complex — the district’s food hall. This 20,000 sq. ft. market will exist as the central gathering space for the district, housing an assorted mix of artisans and eateries, including food stands and retailers such as Rising Star Coffee, Luna Bakery, and Detroit based watchmaker Shinola. With food halls across the country  setting new expectations and constantly raising the bar for design, we are eager to create a space that parallels the everchanging culinary and consumer trends while remaining authentic to the Shaker community. Because Shaker Heights has always lacked a downtown area and central gathering space for residents, the project promises a strong potential to greatly strengthen the entire community by fulfilling social, retail and entertainment needs. Check out our social media pages as we continue to update on the progress of this exciting project!

2015 IIDA Professional Roundtable
Our Design and Trend Director Kristie Oldham had the honor of serving as a panelist at last Thursday's IIDA Professional Roundtable event. This year's discussion was focused on "Knowledge Utility in the Information Age; the awareness of trends which are rapidly changing our world and the way we design." It was intriguing to hear the various perspectives of other design firms in Cleveland on how they individually utilize technology, and how essential it is to meeting client expectations. In this age of transformation, technology moves so fast and has become such a fundamental tool, that it has become imperative for us to understand when and how to incorporate each application appropriately into our process. It is key to educate ourselves as well as our clients, so that we are positioned to meet their every expectation.
A graphic recorder was present to "hand sketch" our conversation about technology. We all recognized and had a genuine appreciation for the irony of this dynamic (pictured below). For further updates and pictures, please be sure to follow us on all our social media pages (see links at the bottom of this newsletter).
We hope you enjoy the quarterly installments of our company e-newsletter. For continuous news and updates, follow us on the social media outlets below and visit the news section of our website at richardsondesign.com/news.

Sincerely,
Scott Richardson
