Vanderbilt Outreach Initiative for Community Empowerment Applications OpenThe Vanderbilt Outreach Initiative for Community Empowerment (VOICE) provides students with the unique opportunity to engage with the Nashville community through service. Students will be matched with a local community partner for a year and engage in facilitated discussions to enhance personal and leadership growth. Some areas of interest that community partners focus on are youth education, racial equity, environmental justice, community empowerment, and many more. Use this form to submit your application by March 15.

A League of Our Own: A Panel DiscussionThe Margaret Cuninggim Women’s Center Ambassadores and the Office of Government & Community Relations are proud to present “A League of Our Own: A Panel Discussion with the Women Leading the Nashville Metro Council.” The event will feature a panel discussion moderated by the Women’s Center Amabassadores and Women in Government. Panelists will include Vice Mayor Angie Henderson and At-Large Council Members Delishia Porterfield, Quin Evans Segall, Olivia Hill, and Zulfat Suara. This esteemed group made history in 2023 when the Nashville Metro Council became woman-led for the first time.

The (Trans)formation of Silence Art ExhibitionCalling all Black graduate and undergraduate visual artists to submit creative work to be featured in a Spring 2024 exhibition on blackness, womanhood, and queerness. Vanderbilt STARS (Small Town and Rural Students)
Providing community, mentorship, and outreach to all current and future Vanderbilt STARS. STARS was founded at Vanderbilt by rural students, for rural students! Our club mirrors the STARS collective, a group of prestigious universities across the country aiming to bridge the gap between post-secondary success and access for rural students. STARS also works with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to increase outreach to high school students from small towns and rural areas! Learn more.

A Convening on Black EducationThis in-person convening is dedicated to exploring limitless possibilities in Black Education. This event will feature a keynote conversation between Dr. Bettina L. Love, the William F. Russell Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University, and author of the New York Times bestseller Punished for Dreaming: How School Reform Harms Black Children and How We Heal, and Vanderbilt professor, Dr. Chezare A. Warren, author of Centering Possibility in Black Education. The program will also feature a special guest musical performance and a panel of local education leaders, graduate scholars, and grassroots organizers to discuss the state of Black education in Nashville, moderated by Jerome Moore, a Nashville native and the creative mind behind the celebrated podcast Deep Dish Conversations. This is a gathering of diverse educators, civic leaders, activists, and engaged community members convening to reflect on what is possible in the education of Black children. Don't miss this opportunity to NETWORK, connect, and learn.
