CSU Releases Findings After Conducting the Largest and Most Comprehensive Survey on AI in Higher Education (4/1/26)
“The survey draws on more than 94,000 responses from faculty, staff, and students, offering key insights into higher education’s relationship with AI — one that is both promising and complex.” Read more.

Cole Armstrong receives one of the ten AI Development Awards from the College of Health and Human Sciences for his project: “Field-Level Intelligence: Mapping Immediate and Future AI Competency Needs in Bay Area Sports Organizations”
Dr. Armstrong explained the importance of his project in the first CHHS blog post featuring AI Development Award winners (other award winners will be featured in upcoming posts): “By surveying professionals across collegiate, amateur, and professional sports teams and organizations, this project captures open-ended, real-world data on their immediate and future AI skill needs.” Read more.

This conference, hosted by the College of Business, includes a light breakfast, a fireside chat featuring Lavanya Gopalakrishnan (Cisco, SVP), Madison Huang (NVIDIA, Senior Director), and Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson (President, San José State University), followed by Networking with a Purpose, mentor-led small group discussions designed to connect students with professionals and share real career insights. - 6th Annual Cal OER Conference: “Exploring the Open Frontier: AI and Emerging Technologies in OER” | July 29–31, 2026| Virtual Conference |
Cal OER will focus on OER efforts and impact, broadly defined, across the state of California and especially across the state’s three public higher education systems, the California Community Colleges, the California State University, and the University of California. The sixth annual Cal OER conference is open to everyone. Proposals due May 18th. Registration costs $25.

7th National Research Platform (7NRP) Workshop | May 5–7, 2026 | UC San Diego | Early Registration Deadline is April 19th
Interested CSU faculty are welcome to attend this event. The NRP provides a distributed, campus-owned cloud designed to give researchers access to advanced compute, data, and AI capabilities across institutions. The 7NRP workshop will provide practical guidance on leveraging these capabilities for research and applied AI. This year’s event places special emphasis on agricultural research and AI in Ag Tech but interested faculty from all disciplines are very welcome to come and learn about:

- Accessing NRP’s distributed, campus-owned compute cloud
- The current state and future direction of NRP
- How faculty and student researchers are leveraging NRP for AI-enabled research
- AI in education on NRP and its role in accelerating exploration of emerging technologies and science

Limited travel support funding from the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) is available for registration and travel expenses to those from non-R-1 and/or EPSCOR colleges. The Colleges of Humanities and Arts and Social Sciences will host a joint event exploring how AI is reshaping teaching, learning, and trust among faculty and students in the classroom. The conversation will highlight emerging challenges and share strategies for navigating pedagogy in an AI-mediated academic landscape. Learn more.

The Teaching with AI Faculty Showcase will highlight thoughtful, ethical, and student-centered approaches to AI across disciplines through digital poster presentations and informal conversations with colleagues. There will also be exploratory AI tool demonstrations. Faculty are invited to share examples of how they are integrating AI into learning experiences, assignments, assessments, or classroom practice. All presenters will receive a certificate recognizing their contribution to campus teaching and learning innovation. Selected examples will also be featured on the CFETI AI Resources site and highlighted in an upcoming faculty newsletter. Deadline is April 15th to submit a short description of your example (for presenters) and complete the showcase event registration form (for attendees and presenters).
