Launch of EPA's Climate Resilience & Adaptation Funding Toolbox (CRAFT)
Interested in funding and formation Climate Change related projects at the library? EPA has released their Climate Resilience and Adaptation Funding Toolbox, CRAFT, to help you out! Check out their resources, including program overviews, climate risk assessment tools, and more, below!
CRAFT was created to support technical assistance providers working with states, Tribes, communities, nongovernmental organizations, academic institutions, businesses and others looking to make sure their investments are resilient to climate-related impacts. The materials contained in CRAFT can help potential funding applicants and recipients make climate-smart investment decisions, particularly in communities just getting started and that have historically been unable to access federal dollars.
CRAFT contains a variety of simple yet effective resources, including:
- Program overviews of EPA’s financial assistance programs where climate-safe investment opportunities are available.
- Climate risk tools and decision support resources that can inform the development, design and implementation of projects.
- Communications materials to facilitate discussions about adaptation, resilience and environmental justice
- Meaningful engagement resources on how to perform targeted community engagement efforts effectively and intentionally when implementing climate-smart projects.
- Definitions of common terms to use during technical assistance consultations, engagement efforts and the development of project proposals.

Sustaining Ecosystems for Climate Learning and Action
On September 9th and 10th, we held our first-ever Climate Action Symposium at the Washington, DC Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Library, in collaboration with NSF, WebJunction, University of North Carolina, Greensboro, and Interactive Learning Dynamics. Over the two days, more than 40 participants discussed the potential role that libraries can play in addressing the public health impacts of climate change. Participants walked away eager to build on this pivotal exchange of ideas by expanding our outreach to the larger library world. As part of this effort, WebJunction will be hosting a series of webinars in the coming weeks, starting Oct 24th.
You can also read the conference background papers that lay the groundwork for the topic here: SSI - Evaluation and Research Reports

A PASSPORT TO THE UNIVERSE
by Martha Saladino at NASA’s Universe of Learning
Seward is a scenic town in south central Alaska. Typical activities in the area include wandering in the Kenai Fjords National Park, observing the wildlife at Resurrection Bay, and visiting the Alaska SeaLife Center. Yet, in the summer of 2022, the Seward Community Library & Museum put together a not-so-typical event, taking participants on a trip to discover the wonders of the universe beyond Earth and learn how we know about them.
