Good Evening,
Please read this before you move along to tonight's news. I'm working on possibly adding radio and TV station logos, etc. to various stories. If you work for an Indiana radio or TV station and you (or one of your colleagues) could e-mail me your station logo, that would be deeply appreciated. IRW's e-mail is: irw@well.com -- Again, thank you!
Northeast
We believe it was September of 1979 when what was Tri State University signed on WEAX (88.3fm, Angola). The college radio station served as a training ground for broadcasters to learn the technical broadcasting aspects, along with honing their vocal skills. Trine recently shut down the 88.3fm signal, moving the programming online (TrineRadio.com and various streaming mobile apps). “Trine Radio offers the same alternative and indie rock that listeners enjoyed on WEAX, but with enhancements such as artist, title and album information as well as purchase links and a list of recently played tracks,” said Josh Hornbacher, executive producer of the Trine Broadcasting Network.
Studio space in The Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center will go through an equipment upgrade focused on both podcasting and online radio.
Federated Media's Active Rock/WBYR (98.9fm, Woodburn) PD and midday host Matt Talluto ("Gasman") will soon exit. Mr. Talluto will join Cumulus on September 16 to program and do afternoons at their "96 Rock" (WFTK-FM). Before working at "98.9 The Bear" (again!), Mr. Talluto did afternoons for "102.9 The Hog" (WHQG-FM) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Adams' Country/WBTU (93.3fm, Kendallville) midday host Travis Walker will exit in mid-October. Mr. Walker has worked for WBTU and sister stations starting in 2004 under prior ownership.
Northcentral
After over five years, weekend meteorologist Ed Russo exits Sinclair's CBS and FOX affiliate/WSBT-TV (Channel 22, South Bend) and joins as weekend meteorologist at Sinclair sister station WHP-TV in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Where Are They Now? Former WNDU-TV Senior Producer Maddy Wierus becomes the 9pm weekday anchor at KXLT-TV in Rochester, Minnesota.
Central
TEGNA closes on their purchase of NBC affiliate WTHR-TV (Channel 13, Indianapolis) and names WTHR GM Larry Delia as SVR/Media Operations. Mr. Delia will lead and oversee several TEGNA TV stations, including WTHR-TV. Succeeding Mr. Delia in the GM chair to lead "13 WTHR" will be Michael Brouder. Mr. Brouder earns the promotion from director of marketing and creative services at WTHR-TV.
New Beginnings Movement's WNPP (88.1fm, Morristown) flips format to Classic Hits. The station also appears on translator W219DO (91.7fm, Edinburgh). WNPP ('The Buzzard') plays one Beatles song an hour, and focuses on 1960s and 1970s music. We note WNPP are similar call letters to the former "93.1 The Buzzard" (WNAP) that entertained central Indiana radio listeners in the 1960s through 1980s and again in the 1990s. Additional translators may be announced later.
Where Are They Now? Former WLHK morning host Dave O'Brien will begin in mornings at KQMT in Denver, Colorado tomorrow (August 27).
Southcentral
Bloomington Community Radio's Variety/WFHB (91.3fm, Bloomington) and their 3 FM translators welcome Kyrie Greenberg as their News Director. While attending Indiana University, Ms. Greenberg worked as a newsroom intern at WHYY in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Southwest
Raycom's NBC affiliate/WFIE-TV (Channel 14, Evansville) expands their weekday midday news from 15 minutes to a full hour (11am until Noon). Their midday talk show (Midday with Mike, hosted by legendary Evansville TV journalist Mike Blake) will expand from 45 minutes to a full hour (Noon until 1pm).
