Congratulations to Ben Stormes, Curator of the North American Garden, on winning the Professional Citation Award from the American Public Gardens Association!
The Professional Citation Award recognizes the achievements of an American Public Gardens Association individual member who has excelled in one of the disciplines that support the missions and values of public gardens such as botany, horticulture, operations, maintenance, conservation, gardening, research, extension, education, marketing, visitor services, development, or administration.
He is a key contributor to maintaining collections at UBC Botanical Garden. Ben is committed to establishing meaningful networks across public garden communities, facilitating the exchange of collections planning approaches, and ensuring that public garden experiences are valuable to all visitors. Recognizing that the protection of our planet is linked to the diversity of it's stewards, Ben has built relationships with Indigenous communities, supporting biocultural conservation. Through his experiences, Ben reminds us to bring the value of 'community' to the forefront of garden practices. Watch his award video below!
