Happy Summer, CRMC Community!
As we look ahead to a new school year, we are excited to continue partnering with educators across the region through professional learning, classroom resources, and collaborative opportunities. In this month's newsletter, you'll find upcoming events, important updates, and ways the CRMC can support your mathematics teaching and learning goals.

Explore our new PD session Back to School Professional Development: "Triangulating Improvement." This event will help educators use state or classroom data from 2025-2026 school year and state assessment rubrics to identify and address specific areas for improvement. This PD is specifically geared to enhance student performance on standardized tests through concept mapping with yearlong planning for the academic year 2026-2027.

If you are interested, please complete the Triangulating Improvement Registration Form. Principals may sign up their teachers for one day between July 27-31. Each day will consist of a seven hour session from 8:30-3:30 with lunch included.

Don’t miss this chance to collaborate with peers on July 23 at the annual Knowles Teacher Conference, explore new strategies, and leave inspired to transform your classroom! Choose from over 60 sessions, all led by high school math and science teachers.

Looking for hands-on tools to support your math instruction? Check out the CRMC Manipulative Catalog! Educators can browse and request manipulatives to be mailed directly to you or returned through the mail—though we always love when teachers come in person to explore our full selection and find the best tools for their classrooms. With a simple e-mail to the CRMC Graduate Assistant, Sarabeth Sansbury, we can have manipulatives and other tools from the CRMC resource room to your classroom in approximately 1-2 business days.

This month, we are proud to spotlight J.D. Davis Elementary and the dedicated educators who recently joined us at the CRMC for professional learning. After the session, teachers explored our collection of free manipulatives and classroom resources to take back to their students. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with J.D. Davis Elementary and support their commitment to meaningful mathematics learning.

Did you know the CRMC has technology resources available for checkout? Educators can borrow a variety of instructional technology tools to support engaging mathematics lessons and professional learning. Watch the video below as Dr. Conway, Director of the CRMC, showcases the Point 2 View camera and demonstrates how this versatile tool can enhance classroom instruction.

Usiskin (2005/2014) examined the historical meaning of integration in U.S. mathematics curricula, emphasizing that integration is more than simply combining topics into one course. Mathematics was originally treated as a unified subject before being divided into areas like algebra and geometry, and Usiskin identifies five forms of integration: unifying concepts, blending subject areas, eliminating distinctions, organizing by strands, and interdisciplinary connections. A key insight from this work was that integration can occur at some levels of a curriculum but not others, depending on how content is structured and connected. 

This perspective challenges the idea that merely referencing prior content counts as integration. Instead, true integration requires coherence across all levels of the curriculum—from individual problems to entire courses and grade levels. It also depends not just on how content is organized, but on how it is taught. As a result, effective integration involves building meaningful connections both horizontally across topics and vertically across time, rather than simply grouping concepts together.
