Strengthening Relationships Through Respectful Communication and Boundaries |
As Valentine’s Day rolls around this year, it’s a perfect time for all of us to reflect on how we can develop and maintain healthy relationships, whether with friends, family, or romantic partners. As life becomes more complicated and busy, maintaining meaningful connections and building new ones can feel increasingly challenging. Below are a few tips to help support and strengthen those important relationships.
|
- Setting Boundaries:
-
Boundaries are the expectations we set for ourselves and others in our relationships. Setting them helps ensure we feel respected and supported. If you’re unsure where to start, reflect on your needs and challenges to better understand your boundaries. Communicate them openly with friends or partners, and remember that boundaries can change over time and may require ongoing conversations to keep everyone comfortable.
-
Don’t be Afraid of Conflict:
-
Conflict is a natural part of all relationships; no one is perfect. What matters is how we communicate our frustrations. Try to have difficult conversations when you’re feeling calm, as this helps you express your feelings clearly and intentionally. Use “I” statements to focus on how someone’s actions made you feel and what you hope to see moving forward. Student Wellness offers Couples Counseling as well for students and their partners. Since conflict is rarely one-sided, be open to acknowledging your role and discussing how you can grow together.
- Spend Quality Time Together

| The Importance of Self-Care and Self-Love and Why It Matters
|
This video explores why investing in ourselves isn’t just worthwhile, it’s essential. Dima Abou Chaaban unpacks burnout and explains how self-love and personal investment are key to building a life we genuinely enjoy and feel excited about.
She even dives into the science behind why self-care matters, reframing it as a skill, one we develop and strengthen over time. In a season filled with love, let’s not forget to turn some of that care inward and invest in ourselves, too 💙.
