Face Covering Update: Indoor and Outdoor Statewide Mandate for Masks
Today, Governor Kate Brown issued a new mask mandate requiring all people age 5 and older in the state of Oregon to wear a mask in outdoor public spaces where physical distancing isn't possible, regardless of vaccination status. The mandate takes effect starting this Friday, August 27, and is in addition to the current statewide mandate to wear a mask in public indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status. Based on this and other updated recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, Oregon Health Authority, and Multnomah County Public Health, face coverings are now required for all individuals inside University of Portland buildings and crowded outdoor spaces on campus, including athletic events, regardless of vaccination status. The outdoor mask mandate will be in place for this Friday’s soccer doubleheader at Merlo Field.
Face coverings are not required in private office space, private laboratories, and dorm rooms. Please read the full face-covering policy for more details. The University will revisit this policy before September 17, taking into account the latest county, state, and federal guidelines and recommendations.
Testing, Testing ... It's free!
Don't forget: UP offers free BinaxNOW COVID self-test kits for all employees and students. With the Delta variant surging in Oregon, it's more important than ever to self-monitor for symptoms and get tested if you think you've been exposed. Curious what the testing process is like? One UP sophomore shares her first-hand experience. And if you're experiencing symptoms, stay home and contact the HCC (for students) or your healthcare provider.

Outdoor movies, spontaneous conga lines, an inflatable gorilla — they're just some of the things that greeted UP students on The Bluff this past week. We asked some of the folks working behind the scenes at move-in and Orientation to share their favorite memories of the festivities.
