Welcome      Grow       Serve      Celebrate

We have had a number of positive Covid cases among our Parkway Hills kids and youth, so out of an abundance of caution, we will not have children and youth activities this Sunday, January 23. This includes Sunday school, extended session, and Engage.  Adults, please check with your small group leader (see list of contacts in the box below) for the plans specific to your Sunday school.

New every morning is your love, great God of light,
and all day long you are working for good in our world. Stir up in us a desire to serve you,
to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son,
our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Winter Retreat

The Youth Winter Retreat was an incredibly powerful and lifegiving 48 hours in the midst of an upside-down season. In addition to the important fun and recreation, I can honestly say I had the privilege this weekend of witnessing the strongest vulnerability and transformation of any point during my career of working with teens and college students in various capacities. What's more impressive is that rather than being a "camp high" seemingly out of nowhere, it is instead a key moment which fits in the wider trajectory of where we've been trending. If you have any needs over the next few days, please contact the church office or myself directly. In the meantime, I hope you'll take a moment to talk to those in your family who attended the retreat about what they experienced; based on the resolve they expressed, I believe we'll all be hearing about it eventually.

Remember that we will not be having youth Sunday School or Engage (Sunday PM) activities on January 23.

Blessing of the Quilts

Don't miss Sunday's service where we'll bless twelve recent quilts made by our Quilting Ministry. The numbers are impressive: in  2018 the quilters produced 23 quilts; in 2019, 64; in 2020, 19; and in 2021, 41 quilts! Southern Christian Services and Catholic Charities partner with PHUMC to distribute our comforting quilts to children in distress.
Covid Safety Update
The Omicron variant is causing extraordinarily high numbers of Covid cases within our community and across the state.  As we wait for this new surge to subside the Leadership at Parkway Hills and members who work in healthcare strongly encourage you to wear a mask while gathering in crowds, including at Parkway Hills UMC, regardless of your vaccination status.  Additionally, preschool and elementary-aged children who are able should wear masks as well.  The current recommendation for a mask to be the most effective is N-95, KN-95, or surgical masks.  Social distancing and handwashing are still effective ways to reduce transmission.

If you have not been vaccinated, or have not received the booster, you are encouraged to speak with your doctor about the Covid-19 vaccination, for yourself and your children.

Thank you for doing everything you can to help keep everyone safe and healthy and for aiding in the support of our healthcare workers.

Sincerely,
Bob Abney, Susan Clark, Charles Guess, Lindsey Norris, Chere Peel,                     Marc Rolph, Anne Yates

Our January Communion Offering supports
Sunday Fund
for Methodist Senior Services

This benevolence fund was created to meet the financial burdens of elders who live on one of our twelve MSS campuses across Mississippi. These are elders who have outlived their resources and can no longer afford the cost of housing or care. No matter how much someone plans and saves, sometimes those plans are dramatically altered by unexpected events which produce overwhelming financial and emotional obstacles.
