Corbin Carpenter Takes Second Place in Audi Snowmass 50 |
We are delighted to share that our very own Corbin Carpenter (RVR Resident & Summer Supervisor at the Ranch House) took second place at the Audi Snowmass 50! Corbin placed second against 46 finishers on a 50.85 mile course with 9,679 feet elevation gain. He finished at 4 hours, 50 minutes and 2 seconds.
The next time you are at the Ranch House, be sure to congratulate this exceptional young man on a job well done and wish him well as he heads to the University of Alaska Anchorage this Fall.
Congratulations, Corbin! You deserve the win and we wish you all the best as you move on to the next chapter.

Please note that we may need to make additional adjustments as we enter the month of August.
|
| As in years past, we will soon say goodbye to many of our summer staff as they return to school in the upcoming weeks. A big thank you for all of their efforts, they did a great job this summer!
Beginning the week of August 14, the pool and snack bar will be staffed on weekends only through the Labor Day holiday. Members may still enjoy the pool during the week. However, the slide will not be operable and there will be no lifeguards on duty during that time.

Those pear-shaped light bulbs we all grew up with are a thing of the past. The sale of incandescent light bulbs, with a few specialty bulb exceptions, is now prohibited under a new energy efficiency rule that took effect August 1. Although many people have already transitioned to Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs, they are now the required standard. According to the Department of Energy (DOE), LED light bulbs use at least 75% less energy and last 25 to 50 times longer than incandescent bulbs. The DOE estimates that consumers will save nearly $3 billion a year on their utility bills with all LED bulbs in their homes. Over the next 30 years, the rules are projected to cut carbon emissions by 222 million metric tons – an amount equivalent to the emissions generated by 28 million homes in one year. Now that's a bright idea.

The National Sheep Dog Trials Return to Carbondale |
|
|
It has been 4 years since our valley enjoyed hosting the National Sheep Dog Trials. It is a large community effort of participants, spectators, volunteers, vendors and sponsors.
One of the most exciting opportunities is to sponsor a participating dog. For $100 you gain access to the event all week, keep track of your dog’s success and are invited to the barn party/dinner on Saturday night. It’s great fun mingling with the dog handlers that come from all over the country. If you think you’d like to sponsor a dog, you can find more information below. You can pick a specific dog or you can be assigned a dog. All dogs are winners to have made it to the finals.
There are lots of opportunities to participate in other ways as well; volunteer to work at the show or have a vendor booth and sell your work. Further info to come soon for volunteering. So mark your calendars to be at the Strang Ranch the last week of September.

Lightning & Thunder Pool Safety |
|
|
We understand it’s disappointing when pool plans are disrupted by thunder or lightning closures. Weather conditions can change suddenly, and everyone’s safety is a priority. If lifeguards are on duty, they are trained to follow Red Cross guidelines, which state to leave the water at the first sound of thunder or sight of lightning. This applies to the recreational pool, hot tubs, and lap lanes. These bodies of water will then reopen after 30 minutes of not seeing lightning, or hearing thunder. Depending on the closeness of lightning, you may also be asked to come inside the building, away from tables and umbrellas. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe.
Did you know the Rifle pool is closed for the season following a suspected lightning strike on July 31? We’re glad patrons and employees are all safe. Read the article here: Rifle Pool Closes following Suspected Lightning Strike
