Green Tip | Dandelion Day
Please enjoy the following eco-friendly tidbit brought to you by Friends of the Environment:
Tomorrow is Dandelion Day, one of Carbondale's favorite festivals. Dandelion Day celebrates and honors activities and products associated with sustainability, community, and spring. The tent hosted by Carbondale's Environmental Board will sponsor four 30-minute informative sessions, beginning on the hour, between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. devoted to environmental education. The topics are dandelions as food and medicine, transforming lawns for bees and biodiversity, growing and maintaining native plants, and regenerative stewardship. Afterward there will be a seed swap where you can pick up seeds for vegetables and plants that grow well in our valley. Plant starts are also available. So come on out and support this community event.

Did You Know? |  Searchable Governing Documents
RVR is a special place and there are various details about the community that many may not be aware of. To help inform homeowners about all of RVR's unique features, we will run a "Did You Know" section each week in the newsletter.
Did you know the RVRMA Master Declaration and Design Guidelines are searchable on the website?
There is an abundant amount of information on the RVR website. The resources tab will lead you to many important pages including Governing Documents, Executive Board Meetings, Design Review and much more.
Homeowners can also utilize a search feature on two of our most asked about files: Master Declaration of Protective Covenants & Amendments and RVRMA Design Guidelines & Amendments. The search function works just like any other search engine on the internet. However, it only searches through the words contained in the PDF file. This convenient feature allows you to go to the document and search a phrase or word and it will find the relevant section for you quickly or easily. Simply open the searchable document and hit Ctrl F on your keyboard and the search field will pop up!
Bears Wake From a Long Winter’s Nap
As we transition into warmer weather, we would like to remind everyone that bears are coming out of hibernation and they are hungry! Bears can be attracted to our area by trash being left out overnight, bird feeders, pet food, barbeque grills and compost.  Please do your part to keep the bears safe and out of the neighborhood.
Chip Sealing
The Town of Carbondale will be chip sealing on Crystal Bridge Drive (Bridge to Bridge), weather permitting, on May 17 - 19.  Driveway access may be limited for a short period of time while the contractor completes the process. Parking will not be allowed on these streets on the day they are going to be chip sealed. No parking signs will be posted the day before work on the streets expected to be chip sealed the next day.

Catkins Galore! by Donna Chase, Master Naturalist for the Forest Conservancy
Male Catkin
Female Catkin
Young Male Catkin
Perhaps you have noticed the abundance of caterpillar looking debris on sidewalks and lawns.  This fuzzy material is actually clusters of tiny flowers from a willow, cottonwood or aspen.  These flower clusters are called catkins and are either all male or all female.  (Willows, cottonwoods and aspens are all members of the Salicaceae Family and the male or female reproductive parts are on separate trees or shrubs.)  The male catkins bear pollen which travels by wind or insects to a female catkin ovary.  Thus pollination occurs and seeds then develop (the white fluff which you will see soon).  Under certain conditions, the seeds then produce new trees.  Most seeds do not find the perfect growing condition but this Family has a back up system—underground runners which produce a tree that is a clone of the original tree.
Enjoy these early blooming flowers which produce protein rich pollen and plentiful nectar for our hungry pollinators.

Youth Gym & Safety Course
At the April 26 board meeting, the board approved a change to the RVRMA Rules & Regulations regarding the minimum age requirements for fitness facility users. Previously, the rule stated users under 15 years old were not permitted on the second-floor fitness facility. The board approved the following change:
Children under the age of fifteen (15) are not permitted in the second floor Fitness Center of the Ranch House unless:
  1. The child is at least the age of eleven (11) and is exercising under the supervision of their parent. The parent must remain with the child in the gym.

  2. The child is at least the age of eleven (11) and is exercising under the supervision of an RVR approved personal trainer and has permission from their parents and RVR management.

  3. The child is at least the age of thirteen (13) and has completed a course with an RVR approved fitness instructor for gym etiquette and safety, and parents of the child have completed an additional waiver for their child to use the gym without their supervision.

Do you have a 13- or 14-year-old teen who would like to use the gym without a parent?  Click here to learn more about the process.
Please Keep Pups Leashed
Concerns have recently come up regarding unleashed dogs resulting in a pet altercation in the neighborhood.
If you ever find yourself in a position where your dog becomes aggressive or you are involved in a pet bitting situation, please be sure to exchange information and report it to the Carbondale Police Department. Many of these situations can be avoided by ensuring your pet is leashed while you are out and about in the neighborhood.
