From the Athletics Department- Basketball
Aardvarks' basketball has had an exciting season that has been completed with the exception of a  late addition to the calendar. On February 22, a combined co-ed team will compete against the Compass School at the Cowell Gymnasium in Shelburne at 4:00 PM. The boys' and girls' varsity teams competed this year with the same grit and sportsmanship that we have come to expect from our athletes, and each team garnered three wins this year! Thanks to all of the parents and members of the Academy community who came out to support our athletes.
Lunch Orders - Snow Days
If you're wondering what happens when you order lunch and your student is absent or there is no school due to inclement weather, please note that we do not refund monies for those days. This is because food for the orders is purchased well in advance, so even though your student does not receive lunch through no fault of your own, we cannot refund monies without impacting the school lunch program's already-tight budget. Please contact Dr. Bloomfield with any questions.

Faculty Reflections
Over the coming months, we hope to provide brief thoughts from our dedicated and talented faculty about their experiences at The Academy. This week, Sarah Goudreault, who teaches Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Calculus 2, reflected on one of her favorite things about teaching at The Academy.
"A day at The Academy starts very differently than at any other school I’ve been to. The whole school community meets to take attendance and discuss logistics of the day’s activities. But Morning Meeting accomplishes much more than information dissemination; it provides all members of the community an opportunity to connect. There is something extraordinary about an entire school cheering for a seventh grader’s indoor soccer team’s first win or encouraging a student to retell his failed joke-of-the-day by chanting his name. Every day I watch students grow into leaders as they organize new clubs, dances, and various other activities for the community and I appreciate their courage as they make creative announcements. It’s easy to wake up for school, knowing I will start my day with fifteen minutes of laughter, and perhaps a birthday or a rousing chorus of Take Me Out to the Ballgame, learning about the personalities and passions of the students that make The Academy community so special."

Wednesday F Block-
February 17
During next Wednesday's F block, classes and councils will meet. This will be an opportunity to reflect on the year's progress thus far in those respective groupings, and to work towards some of the goals set earlier in the year.
BIG LOVE at The Academy
Rehearsals, set building, and technical work are ongoing for The Academy at Charlemont’s annual winter drama of Big Love by Charles Mee - a contemporary work based on the oldest known play by Aeschylus about fifty brides (nine in our production!) trying to escape forced marriage by fleeing to Italy from Greece. Performance times are Friday  and Saturday, March 4 and 5 and Friday, March 11 at 6:00 PM, with a matinee show on Saturday, March 12 at 2:30 PM.
Click HERE to purchase tickets in advance (recommended).
Big Love explores relationships between the sexes and other difficult subjects with bold strokes, including strong language and powerful physicality on stage. It is about flight and coercion, dependence and independence, aggression and submissiveness. It is about a few young couples trying to navigate these extremes, and to enter the mysterious waters of loving and living a life together.
This play was conceived by the author as part of the (re)making project, which encourages groups to use and adapt the work according to the needs and imaginations of the directors and cast members. It calls us to delve into the subject matter and make the play our own, devising new material and developing the characters during the rehearsal process.  Mature themes are brought forth in language that is by turns forceful, satirical, lyrical, and blunt. Co Directors of Big Love are Christina Gabriel and Jeannine Haas.
Volunteers are needed for pre-performance make up and hair styling.  If you're interested in helping out, please contact Christina.
