GENERAL INFO
  • Welcome back Ducks! We hope you'll join in on some of the events and info sessions for our fifth week of IntroDUCKtion. Everything is completely optional.
  • The IntroDUCKtion and Academic Advising community site is now live. Log on to complete your transfer Academic Advising Prep Module.
  • University Housing has extended the deadline for housing cancellations and requests for exemptions to the live-on requirement until September 1, 2020. Room selection will continue to take place in August.
ADVICE FROM TRANSFER TEAM
The Transfer Team, who coordinates and executes events for new transfer students throughout the year, has some more advice for you! Francis, class of 2020, who transferred from Modesto Community College says: “Get involved as much as you can! There are so many opportunities to get involved, even online! Stay connected over the summer and be sure to attend as many virtual events as possible as this is a great opportunity to meet incoming students and learn more about the university."
FACULTY PERSPECTIVES
This week's faculty perspectives mock class sessions will take place on Thursday, August 6. Sign up required; click on the topic title to register. We highly encourage you to join us live so that you can ask questions and interact with faculty! You can also revisit last week's session on YouTube.
  • Kristin Yarris, professor of international studies, focuses on transnational migration and global mental health. Join her conversation on global health for our COVID-19 track at 10:30 a.m. PDT.
  • Indigenous, race and ethnic studies professor Laura Pulido will discuss Anti-Racism through the lens of her research on the intersection of geography and critical ethnic studies at noon PDT.
  • Geology professor Carolyn Fish investigates cartography and environmental communication, and will speak on Environment and Climate Change at 1:30 p.m. PDT.
  • Kirby Brown from the English department will discuss Native American literature and its crucial role in understanding history and contemporary experience in Oregon and across the United States in his lecture on Engaged Humanities at 3:00 p.m. PDT.
  • How can strategic communication improve community health? Join Professor Autumn Shafer for her presentation on Innovation and Entrepreneurship at 4:30 p.m. PDT.
INTEREST SESSIONS
This week's Interest Sessions will be held Friday, August 7. All sessions are open to students, parents, and families. Sign up required; click on the topic title to register. Revisit last week's topics on YouTube.
  • University Housing's How Ducks Live session from 10:30–11:30 a.m. PDT will cover what it looks like to live on campus, including student expectations. There will also be a brief overview of the room selection process.
  • In the University Career Center session, learn about career support available to all students as well as three things you can do during your first year to help you launch a successful career when you graduate, 2:00-2:45 p.m. PDT.
  • The Center for Student Involvement will discuss ways to connect with other students through events and student organizations from 3:30–4:15 p.m. PDT. 
WORK-STUDY, JOB SEARCHING, AND CAREER READINESS
  • The University Career Center hosts career fairs, practice interviews, networking gatherings, and other events throughout the year.
  • Student employment gives you the opportunity to gain experience through part-time jobs on and off campus. Get tips for finding a student job on the University Career Center blog.
  • Federal financial aid consists of more than grants and loans. You may also qualify for federal work-study. Read about the work-study program on the Financial Aid and Scholarships website.
  • Financial Flight Plan is a program dedicated to creating a community of financially literate Ducks. Learn about money management, loans and borrowing, protecting your identity, budgeting, and more as you leverage our financial planning resources. 
JUST FOR FUN
  • Join us August 7 at 6:00 p.m. PDT on YouTube Live for Proud To Be A Duck! Students and staff will discuss the UO LGBTQIA+ community and what it means to be a Proud Duck on campus with a special lip-sync performance you don’t want to miss.
  • The UO Student Recreation Center is hosting a Fitness Dance Party August 8 at 11:00 a.m. PDT. Dance to popular music with easy-to-follow moves that create choreographed routines. Zoom password is 573281.
