Dear Faculty, Administrators and Staff,
I am pleased to announce our Charter Day celebration will take place on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 3 p.m. in the Event Room of the University Center.
Charter Day celebrates the founding of Seton Hall in 1856 and the granting of our charter by the New Jersey State legislature in 1861. It is a special annual opportunity to reflect on our history and purpose, our Catholic identity and mission.
This year's commemoration will include the presentation of the 2024 Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid Medal for Distinguished Service – awarded annually to long-serving employees for distinguished service and commitment to the University's mission – as well as the presentation of the 2024 President's Award for Student Service and recognition of our Servant Leader Scholars. Archive Acquisition of Seton Family Papers Brings Patroness' History to Life
Seton Hall recently received a generous donation of Seton family papers from the Sisters of Charity of New York. The Sisters took meticulous care of these valuable records from the 18th century and transcribed them for modern readers. The papers, which will be merged with the already-in residence Seton-Jevons papers (letters of Elizabeth Ann Seton’s grandchildren), are being digitized and in the near future, will be keyword searchable to increase accessibility. The papers include shipping documents from the famed Seton family mercantile business, and letters from Elizabeth Ann Seton’s relatives both before and after her lifetime.
