Dear Members of the SUNY New Paltz Community:
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Gregory Reed, CPA, as our new vice president for fiscal strategy & management, following a competitive national search. Reed will officially step into the role on Feb. 26.
Reed is migrating to SUNY New Paltz following more than 16 years at South University in Savannah, Georgia, where he served most recently as vice chancellor of finance and accounting. He was responsible for strategic financial planning, budgeting, accounting, procurement and reporting, among other functions, across an 11-campus, 12,000-student system.
Reed will manage a similar portfolio as chief financial officer at New Paltz. The vice president for fiscal strategy & management role is a retitled Cabinet position, part of a strategic restructuring of the vice president for administration & finance position held by Michele Halstead until she stepped down from that role last year.
As vice president for fiscal strategy & management, Reed will oversee the University’s financial condition and integrity; manage operating and capital budgets, revenues, expenditures, business activities and debt; evaluate and recommend improvements to our financial planning processes; and develop strategic metrics, analyses, forecasting and modeling to assess organizational performance and drive effective, nuanced communication for our varied stakeholders.
With experience managing the finances of a $300 million tuition revenue system, Reed brings a deep and sophisticated understanding of higher education operations and finances to this work. Before becoming vice chancellor at South University, he held roles as controller, financial planning and analysis manager, and assistant director of admissions. A Certified Public Accountant, Reed earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa and his MBA from South University.
Please join me in welcoming Gregory Reed to our campus community.
Sincerely,
Darrell P. Wheeler
President
