PART TIME REQUIREMENTS:
I had some feedback on the changes to the part time requirements and I wanted to let you know the 'why' behind this decision.
Ensuring that our staff meet their work commitments is essential to the smooth operation and success of our business. Each spring, we engage in a data-driven process to determine our staffing needs for the summer, including both Full-Time and Part-Time staff. We make sure we hire the right amount of staff to fill the business needs and hire to our forecasting numbers. In the past we have not given any guidelines to our part timers and have found that many of our them aren't able to provide days when we are most busy.
When Part-Time staff are not able to commitment when we need them most it places additional strain on our Full-Time staff and other Part Timers, requiring them to take on extra shifts, which can lead to burnout and inconsistent schedules. When pros are hired that cannot meet our needs it prevents us hiring additional people who can.
We wanted to make sure that expectations were clear from the start this season. I can assure you that decisions like these come directly from me and the Bike School leadership team. As some have suggested it is not Vail telling me how to run the business, that is my job as the manager.
On that note, another change we are making for 2025 to help scheduling needs...
TIME OFF REQUESTS
Last year we saw a large increase in vacation time during our busy periods which left us short staffed and adding pressure on those left on the schedule.
If you are planning time off, requests need to be made in writing to the schedulers before booking trips or making plans.
Time off will not be granted during our peak period of July and August unless for extenuating circumstances for example certification courses, family emergencies etc
Time off will be monitored on a case by case basis and will depend on the situation, business levels and how many other people have time off during that time. Requests will be granted on first come first serve basis.
Please email the schedulers asap with your requests. I will monitor the inbox until the schedulers return and let you know if the time off is approved.
