Meet three-time published author Annie Sullivan ’06. Annie’s love for Creative Writing was sparked at Brebeuf, where inspiring teachers and lifelong friendships shaped her into a “woman for others.” She’s the author of three young adult fantasy novels, Catholicism All-In-One For Dummies, and has a picture book coming in 2025. Her advice to students: be kind, extend grace, and build strong friendships — they’ll carry you far in life!

Favorite class while at Brebeuf Jesuit: Creative Writing

I can’t pick a favorite, and that is due to caliber of teachers Brebuf hires. Whether it was Mrs. Gibbons or Mrs. Manton helping me during so many PRTs in math or Señora Woodcock regaling us with stories in Spanish or a myriad of teachers in the English office, like Ms. Haffley, Mr. Wagner, and Mr. Fanara, so many teachers touched me with their dedication to all students.

I work as the Content Marketing Manager at Fivetran and am a published author. I have three young adult fantasy novels published by an imprint of HarperCollins, am the author of both Catholicism All-In-One For Dummies, 2nd Edition and the forthcoming World Religion All-In-One For Dummies, and have a picture book coming out in 2025 from Penguin Random House.

Brebeuf taught me to be a “woman for others,” which is why I strive to craft creative works that uplift and inspire others. It was also at Brebeuf that I met so many lifelong friends, who still keep me centered and grounded to this day.

Be kind to one another and always extend an extra measure of grace. You do not know what anyone else is going through, so treat others well and build solid friendships now — ones based on strong shared morals — so that you’ll always have someone in your corner moving forward.

Nikki Mazelin '93 returns to Brebeuf Jesuit as the Associate Vice President for Development. Nikki is a dynamic and dedicated professional fundraiser with over 25 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector. A proud 1993 graduate of Brebeuf Jesuit, Nikki continued her academic journey at Butler University, where she earned her degree in 1997.  She is a proud Brave and Bulldog. This educational foundation laid the groundwork for her impactful career, which has spanned various organizations, including Downtown Indy, Inc., Bill Estes Automotive, Brebeuf Jesuit, Butler University, Susan G. Komen, and Cancer Support Community Indiana.

Abigail Hardy Garrett ‘13 graduated with her PhD in microbiology from Indiana University this past August. Abigail just started her post doctorate at Washington University in St. Louis where she is studying tuberculosis. Congratulations, Dr. Garrett!

This year the Key Club sponsored and facilitated the Help for the Holidays Toy Drive. This is an annual event at Brebeuf that benefits the Crisis Office and Catholic Charities. The Crisis Office provides gifts for over 800 families experiencing poverty, helping families who might otherwise be unable to provide holiday gifts for their children.

Members of The Key Club delivered all of the toys donated to the Crisis Center to be distributed to children just in time for the holiday season!

Congratulations to Libby Parkins for being named one of the 2025 Riley Champions!

Libby started fundraising for Riley at her seventh birthday party after asking her caregivers what she could do to give back to other kids like her. This year, she is co-president of Riley Dance Marathon at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School. Several teachers and coaches nominated her for the Riley Champions program, with one noting, "Libby is becoming a catalyst for change."

The QuestBridge National College Match program is one of the most competitive scholarship programs in the country. About 7-9% of applicants win a QuestBridge scholarship to attend one of the highly selective college partner schools. This year, we are very pleased and proud to announce that Nikolas Sample has won a QuestBridge scholarship to attend Northwestern University!

Way to go, Nikolas!

This five-week program in Oviedo, Spain, involved Ben immersing himself in Spanish culture through visiting historical sites, practicing his Spanish speaking skills with locals, and living with a host family.

At Brebeuf Jesuit, Ben is involved in Student Government, Black Student Union, and he is currently taking AP Spanish. The IU Honors Program helped him gain confidence in his Spanish through experiences and new vocabulary learned from the native speakers he encountered.
