In the wake of the new presidential administration, the research world has been attempting to make sense of what this all means. The AU Office of Research, OSARA, and the SOE Research Team are working to provide guidance for PIs and potential PIs on how to navigate the current reality.

Carolyn Parker joins the research team in her new role as the Associate Dean for Research for the School of Education.

Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Innovation Corbin M. Campbell’s project, “Establishing Measures for an Institutional Designation for Teaching Excellence Colleges and Universities,” was selected as a member of the American University’s Signature Research Initiatives Research Informed Civic Engagement (SRI RICE) cohort.
Director of Undergraduate Programs and Senior Professorial Lecturer Ocheze Joseph was awarded a contract through DC Public Schools for the Future Teacher Tutors program.

Featuring AU's Dr. Jane Palmer and Jessica Rucker, current doctoral student in American Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, this SOAR Seminar will explore their collaboration from 2019-2021 when AU's Community-Based Research Scholars Program partnered with the E.L. Haynes Public Charter School in the Petworth neighborhood of DC where Jessica Rucker was a high school teacher. The partnership resulted in a youth-led community-based action research project. Please note that this event is for AU faculty only.

National Science Foundation (NSF): Translation and Diffusion (TD)
This solicitation addresses issues of translation and diffusion that arise in moving knowledge gained from fundamental learning and education research toward application in Pre-K through12 STEM classroom practice or leveraging knowledge derived from effective practice toward driving fundamental research. The Translation and Diffusion (TD) solicitation invites four types of proposals: Research on Translation or Diffusion, Proof-of-Concept Research, Synthesis, and Conference / Workshop.

Panmure House Prize
The Panmure House Prize is an annual award of US$75,000 for research that explores the relationship between long-term thinking and radical innovation. The prize is awarded to emerging leaders in academia and enables research that embodies Adam Smith's own approach to rigorous empiricism and long-term, inter-disciplinary thinking.

The first few days of the new presidential administration have been filled with chaos and uncertainty, causing questions and concerns about research funding, both current and potential. American University's School of Education remains dedicated to the values of excellence, equity, antiracism and social justice, diversity and inclusion, collaboration, and innovation no matter what is happening on the political landscape. This SOE Research Advisory and Support Group Meeting on will be an opportunity for faculty and staff to gather to hear the latest updates, share concerns, and brainstorm possibilities. This will be a hybrid meeting, in-person in SVB 251 and on Zoom.
