Indoor and Outdoor Mandate for Masks
In accordance with the statewide mask mandates, all people age 5 and older are required to wear a mask inside University of Portland buildings and crowded outdoor spaces on campus, including athletic events, regardless of vaccination status.
Face coverings are not required in private office space, private laboratories, and dorm rooms. Please read the full face-covering policy for more details. Until further notice, the University will continue to follow the latest county, state, and federal guidelines, recommendations, or requirements for face coverings.

vaccination proof required at Home sports events

Soccer season is in full swing and the stands are packed with purple. But if you’re coming to a home game, don’t forget you’ll need to bring a couple of things in addition to plenty of school spirit—namely, a face covering and proof of vaccination for all folks over the age of 12. These proactive measures help to ensure the games can go on even while COVID-19 cases are surging in Oregon. Those who can’t show proof of vaccination can show documentation of a negative PCR COVID-19 test result within 72 hours of the game. Keep in mind, these tests are administered by health care providers, and are different from the rapid antigen self-tests available for free on campus.

You may have noticed a few big outdoor tents popping up around campus. What are they for? They’re for you! These five tents offer a covered outdoor seating space for students to hang out, catch up with friends, dine outdoors, or even meet with clubs. If you want to reserve one for a meeting, faculty and staff can help make a reservation through the EMS system. To help you find them in EMS, search for: Bell Tower Courtyard, Chiles Center South Outdoor Plaza, and Library Patio. And as the weather cools, outdoor heaters will be installed to keep the chill off. The tents will be up through the end of fall term.

What's Your Pandemic Hobby?
| |
When the world went into lockdown in spring of 2020, people filled their long hours at home by taking up old hobbies, trying on new ones, learning new things, and accomplishing long-deferred goals. Social media channels were awash in photos of fresh-baked loaves, brand-new decks, and brightly plumed warblers from a nation of budding bakers, builders, and birders. It was inspiring! So, we want to hear from you. What hobbies, habits, or activities have you or your family taken up since COVID hit? Maybe your newfound passion will inspire someone else. Email us at pilotsprevent@up.edu and share your story. We’ll compile the responses for a future edition of the Helping Pilots Prevent newsletter.

As students, staff, and faculty get back into the on-campus routine, the staff on the Help Desk would like to remind everyone that although tech support is just a click away, please have patience. “We are doing our absolute best to get back to everyone in a timely manner but sometimes it may take a day or so longer than they are used to,” says Dawn Lloyd, customer support manager for Tech Services. “We remain committed as ever to helping them despite the delays.” Luckily, there’s plenty of self-help available for basic tech questions at support.up.edu. If you need help learning an application, try LinkedIn Learning, which is available for free via myapps.up.edu. And don’t forget that the help desk’s physical location has moved from Franz to BC 106. Appointments are required. Check out the Help Desk web page for a list of services and to make an appointment.
