SUMMER!!!

I feel like we’ve been waiting two years for this summer, and it’s finally here in all its glory. Band camps, sports camps, faith-based camps, and more are in full swing. Whether your student is taking it a little easier this summer or is occupied on every day ending in -y, I hope this pause before the next school year is a life-giving time for them and your family. With that said, welcome to the Summer Newsletter, Part I (I’ve been watching a lot of Stranger Things, so the nomenclature is on my mind). We have a lot of great opportunities for them here at Parkway Hills this summer, many of which are aimed at making sure we stay connected and stay refreshed while everything else pulls us across the country and even the world this summer. And there’s room for you, too! This summer would be a great chance to dive in to what God is doing in our ministry. Read on for more info, or click here to get signed up.

PS. Registration for our trip to Panama City will close on June 15th. This stands to be an incredible week for our students as they grow and have fun together. With that in mind, I want to clearly say one more time in this last youth newsletter before the trip that we don’t want money to be the reason someone doesn’t go. If money is an issue for this trip, please reach out; we’ll make it happen. I know from personal, recent experience that it can be painful to talk about shortfalls in a world that equates finances with moral standing. The best thing I can do as a minister is to make sure that doesn’t keep us from being together.

Dates to Know

June 15:
• SEW, 5pm-7:30pm. Meet at SoulShine Pizza in Ridgeland, pick up at PHUMC after a service project. Bring money for dinner.
• Panama City trip registration deadline.
• Deadline to purchase a youth shirt for those not going on the PC trip.

June 18: Day at the Lake! The Hambleton home on Lake Caroline, 12:30-4:30. Drinks and snacks will be available. Check the church directory app for the address or message Geoff.

June 19: Sunday Kickback will look a little different this time because of VBS. Ice & Vice at 4pm, followed by serving at church at 5:30. Some will be assigned to assist in VBS, others will help with some needs around campus. Let Geoff know you're coming so we can get a count for dinner; bring money for fro-yo but dinner is covered.

Last Call for Panama City!

It's almost time to head to Florida, so don't let this chance for fun in the sun slip away. The full registration cost is $350 and it's payable at the office, through our Vanco app, or the online giving system. If there's a difficult financial situation, please be in touch; money shouldn't be the reason a student misses out on this time together. Those already registered, please get your shirt sizes to Geoff by June 15 and finish closing out remaining balances by June 27.

New Youth Shirts

Need a comfortable, vintage-style shirt to get into the spirit of summer? We've got you covered! This year's shirts are on sale for $17 through Wednesday, June 15, for those not going on the Panama City trip (those going, your shirt is already covered, but you need to let Geoff know your size).

Summer 2022

An overview of remaining summer events:

Summer ENGAGE Wednesdays (SEW) June 15, and 29; July 13 and 27: ENGAGE shifts to Wednesday for the summer to take advantage of summer days away from school. A variety of fellowship and service events across the summer.

Sunday Kickbacks, June 19 and July 17 (alternating Sundays on weeks without SEW): Adults, we still need a volunteer and a dinner provider for July 17!

Special Events:
Geyser Falls Trip, July 23: By popular demand, we're headed back!
"Can't Wait Till Christmas" Back to School Party, July 31: This growing annual tradition falls on the last of our alternating Sunday evenings as we say goodbye to summer and pretend it isn't 100 degrees outside.

Ways for adults to be involved
-Driving for/chaperoning SEW events
-Providing dinner and/or volunteering with Sunday Kickbacks; volunteering for the Christmas Party on July 31. Per our Safe Sanctuaries policy, we need at least one female volunteer but all are welcome to serve with us upon completing a background check.
-Driving for /chaperoning the Geyser Falls trip
