“I knew nothing of my father’s side when I started ancestry, nothing,” said Kenyetta Harris, a payroll administrator in Savannah. “To now be able to track it back to Africa — words can’t even describe it.” Harris partnered with Christopher Lawton (History and Sociology), whose students helped her discover people, stories, and a family history she had never known.

Now that our Ivan Allen College dean finalist candidates' on-campus visits are complete, we are asking for your feedback. The links below contain each finalist's CV, a recording of the seminar, and a feedback survey. Whether you met with candidates or just viewed the seminar, we are interested in hearing from you.
The survey is anonymous, and the results are only shared with the provost. Surveys will remain open through Friday, Nov. 22, at which time we will take down the candidate profiles, seminar recordings, and surveys.

| Roscher and Trajkova Win Postdoctoral Research Awards |
At the 10th Annual Postdoctoral Research Symposium on Nov. 8, Franziska Roscher (International Affairs) and Milka Trajkova (Literature, Media, and Communication) received Best Talk from the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. Roscher presented on "How Clientelist Party Mobilization Closes the Gender Turnout Gap: Theory and Evidence From India," and Trajkova presented on "aiDance: How Can We Quantify a Plié?"

Faculty and staff are asked to submit information about any books they have authored or edited between January 2023 and December 2024 by Friday, Dec. 6.

"Exploring Narrative Creation, Innovation, and Inclusion with Julie Ann Crommett" (ML 2811), a 1-credit course from the School of Modern Languages, dives into how inclusive narratives can drive media disruption and spark a creative renaissance. 2024-25 Mentoring Workshop Series |
Graduate and Postdoctoral Education invites faculty, postdocs, and graduate students to take part in a new Mentoring Conversations Workshop Series designed to help research mentors enhance their skills and develop productive relationships with mentees.
Graduate and Postdoctoral Education is planning to run the series annually, so there will be additional opportunities to complete the series. You may register for individual workshops without signing up for the full series.

John Lyon (Modern Languages) presented a paper, “Entangled Worlds in Novalis,” at the Atkins Conference of the Goethe Society of North America. The paper traced the potential influence of imaginary constellations in the Romantic poetry of Novalis on quantum theorists of the early 20th century.

Lisa Yaszek (Literature, Media, and Communication) was the featured guest author at Finestres, Barcelona’s leading independent bookstore, where she discussed the history of women in science fiction with author Roser Cabré-Verdiell.

Olga Shemyakina (Economics) presented her paper titled "Violent Conflict and Access to Healthcare" at the 6th Homeland Security Research Symposium at Kennesaw State University.

The day begins with the Institute-wide master’s ceremony at 9 a.m. in Bobby Dodd Stadium, followed by the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts Master’s Commencement Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. A reception for graduates and guests will follow the ceremony at 12:30 p.m.
