It's hard to believe we've entered the last week of July! It has been so fun watching the summer unfold and seeing so many great highlights from our various virtual programs. Even though we're entering our last few weeks, enrollment for UACS Cyber Summer Camps is still open and it's never too late to join the action! You can find links to the enrollment applications for each UACS site below.

Family Cooking with Mrs. Cato has been a great success this summer! Last week, students and families made cheesecake two ways: vegan and traditional. See photos below of everyone showing off their cheesecakes! Join us on Fridays at 2pm for more delicious activities 😋

Lea Cyber Summer Camp
🌟 Week 4 Highlight🌟
This week, the K-2nd grade team is traveling to India! Although it is a 16-hour flight away, there is a lot we can learn about the oldest continuous civilization in the world from home. Students will explore Indian culture and cuisine, learn about the origins of yoga and chess, and study India's national symbols, the lotus, tiger, and peacock! Join their travels every day this week.

Summer Career Exposure Program: Virtual Talent ShowcaseEach Friday students get to speak with inspiring professionals from diverse career fields, including healthcare, law, arts and entertainment, and entrepenuership. This past Friday, students shared their talents, including the artwork pictured here. Shoutout to Tahaja Green, Kaelyn Salley, Kynai Tindell, Isaiah Green, Brooklyne Spraggins, Zafira Hossain, Keenan Morris, and Sayonee Hughes for sharing their talents with us!
The Career Exposure Program Culminating Event will be Friday Aug. 7th, from 10:30-12:00. It will feature student work from the summer and student awards! Stay tuned for a formal invite and Zoom link.

Mayor Kenney has signed a law protecting workers from retaliation by their employers if they report unsafe working conditions related to COVID-19 or refuse to come to work because of a COVID-19 public health order violation. To read more, click here.

The City of Philadelphia has compiled a list of resoures to support its citizens in areas like family safety, financial and emotional well-being, and early childhood education. Penn UpdatesThe tragic and horrific recent incidents of racist violence in America have shined a spotlight on the painful reality that many in our country have been long aware of: the enduring legacy of racism. In an effort to amplify the messages of the protests, Penn Arts & Sciences created a special series: What Happens to a Dream Deferred? 60-Second Lectures on Racial Injustice. This set of short talks focuses on the history and contemporary manifestations of racism in the U.S., Black lives and culture, and the range of factors that have contributed to this moment. School District of Philadelphia UpdatesThis week we would like to give a big congratulations and thank you to Principal Richard Gordon of Paul Robeson HIgh School for recieveing the 2020 Distinguished Service to Education Award from the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). Since 2013, Principal Gordon and his staff have transformed Robeson High and continue to serve their students in amazing ways. Principal Gordon will represent Pennsylvania as a nominee for the NASSP National Principal of the Year Award. To read the full story, click below.
