Graduate student employees in the BX and RX bargaining units are now eligible to receive a 50% discount on the 2023 Summer U-Pass for unlimited regional transit access via included bus and Trolley rides, reducing the cost from $67.60 to $33.80. During summer only, the employee VC-50 for Transit program combines with the Student Summer U-Pass because there is no transportation fee during the summer quarter, meaning U-Pass is not covered.
U-Pass provides amazing value with up to three months of transit rides included. The 2023 Summer U-Pass is valid now through September 30, 2023 and covers all rides on MTS and NCTD bus or trolley routes up to $2.50 each way.

As an additional U-Pass value during this summer, free unlocks means savings on every Spin ride. Attention: All students purchasing a Summer U-Pass online must have an active PRONTO account registered to their @ucsd.edu student email to receive the virtual product on their smart device.
How to purchase online (PRONTO account required; see below):

Login to your Parking Account using SSO.
- Permits > Get Permits.
- Select "UAW Summer U-Pass 2023 ($33.80)."
- Follow steps to complete the transaction.
A virtual Summer U-Pass will be sent to your PRONTO account within two business days (weekends not included).
Don’t have a PRONTO account?
Download the PRONTO app from the app store and create your account using your @ucsd.edu student email address before you purchase online.
Every student is required to create their own PRONTO account and link to the U-Pass program. Once you’ve created your account, follow the steps below to “link” to the UCSD U-Pass account:
- Under the “Manage” tab, select “Student and Employee Programs.”
- Select “UCSD U-Pass.”

You should receive a “Link Successful” message. If you receive a “Link Unsuccessful” message, you will need to verify that your email address matches what UC San has on file by sending an email to iride@ucsd.edu with the header “PRONTO Help.”

Once you successfully link, the option to link will disappear.
- Now you can purchase a Summer U-Pass online. (See steps above.)
- Once you have purchased the Summer U-Pass, you will automatically be included in U-Pass+ providing the free Spin Unlock incentive within days, when you have a Spin account!
No Smart Phone, No Problem!
You can purchase a pre-loaded PRONTO Summer U-Pass card from the Gilman Service Center (7 a.m. – 6 p.m. weekdays). Please note, we only accept credit card and student accounts for payment.
Warning: Losing a physical PRONTO Summer U-Pass card is just like losing cash. Full price ($40.60) replacement cards are available in office only while supplies last.
