Week Four of Homelessness Awareness Month
In week four of Homelessness Awareness Month, we will focus on homelessness among families.
This week we'll cover topics such as homeless families statistics, domestic violence information, providing for our Native American populations experiencing homelessness, and how to get involved with HomeAid.
Making a difference starts with you.
Homelessness can have a tremendous impact on children – their education, health, sense of safety, and overall development.
Children show higher levels of emotional and behavioral problems, increased risk of serious health problems; are more likely to experience separations from their families, and can experience more school mobility, repeat a grade, be expelled or drop out of school, and have lower academic performance.
Research indicates that families that receive a housing subsidy after exiting homelessness are far less likely to experience interpersonal violence than those that do not. Beyond addressing their immediate safety and housing needs, survivors of domestic violence require supportive services that can help them heal from the trauma of abuse and improve their economic security and well-being.
