Joint Commercial Organization Calendar Launches

Did you know there are at least 13 other commercial real estate organizations throughout the Philadelphia region? These organizations provide their members with very specific benefits and services. However, there are also a number of events they conduct throughout the year that are open to non-members.
To provide commercial practitioners an easy way to keep up with these event offerings, the Suburban West Commercial Chapter has been joined by a few of these commercial organizations to aggregate these events onto a centralize Joint Commercial Organization Calendar. The current list of participating organizations are CCIM PA/NJ/DE Chapter, SIOR Philadelphia Chapter, IREM Delaware Valley Chapter, IREM Southern NJ Chapter, NAIOP Greater Philadelphia Chapter and CII Council of Chester County.
Click here to access the Joint Commercial Organization Calendar and bookmark the link to easily access in the future. Note that to see more events later in the year, click on the "Look for more" link at the bottom of the calendar.

Congress Extends Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings Deduction (179D) Through 2020

In mid-December, the U.S. Senate reauthorized the 179D Energy Efficient Commercial Building Deduction through 2020 (and two retroactively to include 2018-2019) as part of H.R. 1865, a year-end federal spending bill to fund the federal government. This keeps this important deduction available for commercial property owners through 2020, and allows them to claim it for 2018 and 2019 as well (the provision had previously lapsed at the end of 2017).
The 179D deduction allows commercial building owners who improve the building's energy-efficiency to receive a deduction of as much as $1.80/sq ft in the year the upgrade goes into service, after receiving proper third-part certification. It is available for both new construction and retrofits, and does not favor any particular method of conserving/reducing energy use. It encourages commercial building owners to make energy-efficient improvements, but importantly gives them flexibility to make their own choices as to how to best accomplish that.
NAR is a member of several coalitions which advocate for 179D's long-term reauthorization and will continue pushing that in 2020 ahead of its expiration.
