Thank you to everyone who attended our 2025 NAM President's Reception!
Nearly 60 members gathered to celebrate our 2024 and 2025 board members and install Dr. Laura L. Lawson as our 2025 president. We were honored to welcome former NAM presidents, including Barrett Rosen, MD, Charles Eckstein, MD, Michael Zanolli, MD, Trey Lee, MD, Adele Lewis, MD, Lee Fentriss, MD, Kevin Smith, MD, Michael Beckham, MD, and Carl Willis, MD, as well as members of the NAM and MFN Boards of Directors and representatives from the TMA Board of Trustees.
A few highlights from 2024 shared during the event include:
- Continued membership growth! NAM welcomed 284 new members, including practicing physicians, residents, and medical students
- A strong and engaged community. NAM maintained nearly 2,300 members marking another year of growth.
- Advocacy in action. NAM had one of the largest representations at the 2024 Day on the Hill and the 2024 TMA House of Delegates, ensuring physicians' voices were heard statewide.
- Meaningful connections. NAM hosted and partnered on over 20 events and meetings, bringing our members together for networking, education, and advocacy.
We're excited for another great year ahead! Thank you for being part of the NAM community!

Elections for the Tennessee Medical Association are happening now and will close on February 28th at 5:00 p.m. CT. Members will use the same voting platforms as last year.

- NAM Member, Michelle Cochran, MD, discussed physician burnout and suicide with WSMV in Nashville. Watch the full story online here. If you or someone you know is experiencing a crisis, help is available by calling the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The Nashville Academy of Medicine has also partnered with the Medical Foundation of Nashville since 2023 to compile timely and updated resources through our PROSPER program to assist physicians experiencing burnout. Click here for our updated PROSPER online resource directory, which has been newly updated for 2025.
- On February 23, East Brentwood Presbyterian Church (9000 Concord Road) is hosting a screening of Zurawski v. Texas, a documentary, which follows three clients from Texas who were denied abortion care despite life-threatening pregnancy complications, and the attorney advocating for them. Dinner will be served at 5:30 PM on a first-come, first-served basis, with light snacks and refreshments available throughout the evening. Community discussion to follow the screening. Please note, due to the sensitive nature of the film, it is recommended for viewers 18 and older. Membership renewal for 2025 is now underway as NAM and TMA prepare for a significant 2025 Legislative Session representing YOU. Individual members have received a joint NAM/ TMA invoice mailed/emailed from TMA, while group members have received separate invoices from NAM.
Members can also use the dues process to contribute to the Medical Foundation of Nashville and TMA Political Action Committee.

The Nashville Academy of Medicine and Tennessee Medical Association invite Young Physicians in our region to a Nashville Networking event on Thursday, February 27th! We'll enjoy free food and refreshments, meet other early-career physicians from the Nashville-area, and support a wonderful local non-profit, Thistle Farms. The Young Physician Section focuses on enhancing the careers of young physicians, like you. We also support young physician advocacy for policy change and encourage their involvement in leadership at TMA and NAM. Talk to us at the event about the work we are doing, and how you can join us!
