Dear Students:
As winter weather is forecasted to impact our campus this weekend, I want to share a few important updates and reminders to help you plan ahead and stay safe.
Reminder: A-State is Never Truly “Closed”
While university business offices may close and face-to-face classes may be cancelled due to weather conditions, Arkansas State continues to operate essential services. Dining Services, University Police, Housing, and Facilities Management will remain active to support students on campus.
Preparing Your Residence Hall for Cold Temps
Students living on campus should check their email for guidance from University Housing on preparing for the extremely cold temperatures expected next week. These tips include ensuring windows are closed, turning on the heat, running a slow drip on faucets, and setting thermostats to at least 70 degrees.
Campus residents who are able should consider returning home for your comfort and to support campus operations during the weather event. Any decision to open/close campus will be made each day in time for students to safely return.
Snow Days Next Week Will Impact Financial Aid Payments
Please be aware that weather-related class cancellations can affect the academic calendar. If classes are cancelled early next week, the 11th class day, which triggers financial aid disbursements, will be delayed. Currently, Tuesday, Jan. 27, is the 11th class day, meaning financial aid would disburse on Wednesday. Each day of missed classes shifts that timeline back by one business day.
Staying Informed During Inclement Weather
To stay informed on the university’s response to inclement weather, please monitor the A-State website, Pack Portal, your student email, and our official social media channels (@ArkansasState). In addition, make sure you are signed up for A-State Text Alerts. You can find the sign-up link under the “Campus Tools” heading of the left menu. Any closures or service adjustments, including changes to dining hours, will be communicated through these channels.
As always, your safety remains our top priority.
