To Our Campus Community:

As we have stated before, the entire UMKC community has good reason to be Roo Proud of where we are with regard to COVID-19. Thanks to the efforts of our students, faculty and staff to follow health and safety recommendations, we have kept the disease in check at a manageable level on campus.

Following the Labor Day long holiday weekend, as expected, we began to see a moderate increase in confirmed positive cases on campus. Health experts have advised that this pattern could continue through the end of this week, although daily cases already are declining.

We must continue to stay vigilant and disciplined with our health and safety practices and protocols for some time to come. That includes following prevention practices such as physical distancing and wearing masks at all times you are in proximity to others, both on and off campus.

With that in mind, we want to urge all members of our community to visit our campus COVID-19 website regularly. There, you will find up to date information on the number of confirmed cases on campus, CDC-recommended health and safety practices, and our campus protocols for both preventing and reporting infections.

Our policies reflect our commitments to both transparency about infections, and to individual health privacy. All confirmed cases reported to us are listed daily on this page, along with information about dates and campus locations visited by individuals who tested positive without revealing individual identities. This page also lists any other COVID-related actions, including this one yesterday by Athletics.

In terms of reporting infections, we remind everyone of the rules in place governing reporting confirmed cases for both students and employees. They include:

Take your temperature and monitor your health every day. If you experience symptoms associated with COVID-19, or a fever of 100.4F or higher, do not come to campus. Call your health care provider, and make arrangements to be tested as soon as possible. Stay off campus until you receive test results.

      • If you test positive, notify campus within four hours of receiving your results.

      • During regular weekday business hours, employees should notify their supervisor or department head; students should call the UMKC HelpLine at 816-235-2222.

      • Outside of normal business hours, please notify campus by calling the COVID-19 Hotline at 816-235-COVI (2684).

      • If you are a faculty or staff member and a student tells you they are positive, please report it using the mechanisms above.

      • If you are in quarantine, have a scheduled COVID test, or are awaiting a test result, do not come to campus.

      • If your COVID-19 test is negative, follow your health-care provider’s advice. If you are still experiencing symptoms, stay home and practice good hygiene. Contact your professors or supervisor to let them know.

We appreciate all that you have done, and continue to do, to keep our community safe and healthy.

In this together,
