Happy Friday! We can't believe it's almost May, but that also means we're welcoming our new Chief Digital Services Officer Cyd Harrell next week. Exciting times ahead!

Attend our shareout for SF.gov editors!

Get an overview of what's changed on SF.gov, what's coming up and our process for prioritizing changes to the site.

There will also be time for you to share what's working and not working on SF.gov with the team who maintain and improve the site.

The shareout will take place on Thursday, May 12, 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. We will send you all an invite next week!

Training and support

Sign up for training to get the meeting invitations and to get a publishing account. Anyone who works for the City is welcome!

Services on SF.gov (transactions and step-by-steps) - Monday, May 16, 2 pm to 3 pm (bonus advanced workshop!)
Public Bodies and Meetings - Thursday, May 19, 11 am to noon (bonus session!)
Choosing you content type on SF.gov - Tuesday, May 24, 1 pm to 2 pm (yet another bonus session!)
Publishing on SF.gov (the basics) - First and third Wednesday, 11 am to 12 pm
Introduction to SF.gov - Second Wednesday, 11 am to 12 pm
Writing for SF.gov - Fourth Wednesday, 11 am to 12 pm

What's new for publishers

Alert banner on training sites

Now you can feel confident that you're working in the right place! If you're in a training environment, there will be a red alert telling you your work will not be saved.

For the live site, sign in at SF.gov/user

The top of the content sandbox. There is a red alert that says

Report content type now available

You can now add long documents as Reports! You'll need to copy-paste in content right now, but we're working on a Word upload feature. 

Reports turn long, large, inaccessible PDFs into a web-friendly format that's easier to access, searchable, and mobile-responsive.

Subsections in Resource sections

Resources now have sections in department and topic pages. You can edit your department pages and make your resource tile lists more readable.

Bug fixes

We've fixed problems with empty resource fields breaking pages, and contact information on public body pages.

Examples

Transaction

A transaction is a singular touchpoint that a San Franciscan does with the City. One example we helped write is getting a birth certificate for someone over 3. Note how we point out the timeline, call out where to go for other birth certificates, and how we present in-person and mail options.

If you have a program that you're wondering how to rewrite as a step by step or transaction, we'll have training just about that on Monday, May 16. Sign up today!
