Dear Tulane Family Member,
|
|
|
It's finally Move-In time at Tulane! Transfer students' families are on the way to New Orleans soon for Move-In. I'm sending this newsletter issue so you can find Move-In reference information in one convenient place near the top of your mailbox.
Please make sure your student has caught up on all their Tulane email. After this point, they won't have you nearby to nudge them in this regard. It's critical that they adopt the habit of checking their email every day.
Before you come to campus for move-in, remind students to:
|
|
|
-
Review their assigned move-in day and time slot confirmation message emailed to their Tulane email address from Housing and Residence (housing@tulane.edu).
- Make a written list of emergency contacts in case their mobile phone is lost or stolen.
- Confirm family members are in the emergency contacts section of their Gibson portal.
-
Download Everbridge, the personal safety app: https://emergencyprep.tulane.edu/everbridge-app.
-
Bring their required original ID documents if they want to be hired for a student worker position. (They can always use our campus FedEx Office to send documents back to you if you don't want them to keep them here all year.)
|
If you take photos to mark this occasion, use #tulaneu on social media to share them with our community. Look for the colorful, spirited decorations and signs around campus to use a background for your photos.
I hope your student's Move-In experience goes smoothly. It's a busy day and it can be an emotional one, so be patient with each other. We can't wait to see you!

Students can access their customized Move-in Guide and Check-in Pass by logging-in to the Housing Portal and selecting the Move-in Guide button on the home page.
Please keep in mind that timeslots cannot be changed at this point, due to our careful preparation of traffic flow and parking, staffing, and resources. Students must arrive during or after their timeslot. We cannot accommodate earlier move-ins.
Before heading to campus:
Ask your student to confirm their move-in date and time slot in the confirmation email sent to them by Housing and Residence Life.
New this year: Students do not need to print anything in advance.
Opt-in to Tulane's Move-In Emergency text alert by texting TUMoveIn to 888777. This is a special alert only used August 10 – 16, 2025.
Refer to the Move-In at Glance annotated map below for driving directions.
Review the 2025 Fall Move-In Overview, Shipping and Mail Services Tutorial video for more guidance. See the section from 17:20 - 20:20 for a description of the Move-In Flow and overhead view/map of the route.

Recycling and Sustainability Practices During Move-In |
|
|
Move-in is a prime opportunity to divert materials from the landfill. Please review our recycling system because it likely differs from your local recycling service. During move-in and throughout the year, Tulane’s uptown campus recycling team collects the following materials in separate streams.
Recycling Streams Collected: emptied & flattened cardboard, emptied plastic bottles #1 & #2 & metal cans, paper & paperboard (shoeboxes). Glass is collected at dedicated collection hubs serviced by Glass Half Full. Hubs are located at the recycling stations adjacent to these residential halls: Aron, Decou-Labat, Butler, Josephine Louise, Greenbaum, Monroe, and Sharp.
Please do not add these materials to campus recycling collection sites: plastic bags and other flexible plastic film products, Styrofoam, pizza boxes, and other soiled cardboard, food. When in doubt, throw it out.
Don't forget our other sustainability effort during Move-In -- the Trash to Treasure sale! Sunday, Aug. 10 – Saturday, August 16, 2025, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Elleonora P. McWilliams Lab Theater Room, 104.

Tips for Staying Safe in Extreme Heat |
Our area is experiencing record-setting temperatures and triple-digit heat index values. Tulane's Office of Emergency Preparedness & Response wishes to remind you of the following safety tips to use during your Move-In visit:
Stay hydrated: Hydrate often with water or other non-caffeinated beverages. During move-in week, Sunday, August 10 through Saturday, August 16, water stations will be located strategically across the Uptown campus offering iced water. Many buildings also have water fountains and water bottle filling stations.
Take breaks: When outside, take frequent breaks in cool, shaded areas, or inside air-conditioned buildings.
Dress for the heat: Wear loose, light-colored clothing, especially when working outside. Wear a hat, a cooling towel, and if possible, use a portable fan to help stay cool.
Seek help in a medical emergency: If you or someone you see is experiencing heat illness, including symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, please call TUPD at (504) 865-5911. Emergency medical responders will be on-site on the uptown campus during move-in week.
Report facilities issues: In sustained extreme heat, our local power utility may temporarily lose power or be unable to provide consistent power, which may impact our elevators and air conditioning systems. If any of our campuses experience a power issue, it may take some time to get all systems fully back online. If you experience a facilities emergency, including an elevator outage, please call (504) 865-5911 or follow the instructions inside the elevator, or follow the instructions inside the elevator. Less urgent issues may be reported to Facilities Services by submitting a request via Service Wave.

Student Employment Required Documents for Hiring, Job Fair Reminder |
|
|
If your student received a Campus Work Study Award as part of their Financial Aid package or otherwise wishes to work at a part-time job on campus, they have appropriate, original ID for hiring. See Student Employment's list of acceptable documents required for I-9 verification to be hired for part-time jobs. Staff will be at the Family Resource Fair if you have questions.
To help students find jobs, the Office of Human Resources will be hosting the Fall 2025 Student Part-Time Job Fair on Monday, August 25, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m, 2nd floor LBC. Students will have the opportunity to meet on-campus and local off-campus employers looking for part-time employees. Students may register now on Handshake (an online jobs and internship posting platform), or at the fair.

Campus Services Update on Packages, Textbooks, Splash Cards, and Shuttles |
As your student begins life at Tulane, we want to keep you informed about a few important updates that can help them navigate campus life more smoothly. From package delivery tips to transportation options and campus essentials like the Splash Card, here’s what you need to know to support your student this semester.
Important Package Delivery Notice for Residential Students
We want to make you aware that some Walmart and third-party deliveries are not being dropped off in designated zones properly. Tulane Mail Services is not responsible for missing items, so we encourage families to use caution when placing orders from these vendors.
Textbook Delivery and Pickup: What You Need to Know
Tulane’s bookstore makes it easy for students to get their course materials via the NTC Undergrad Bundle. Please remind your student to check their Tulane email for instructions on how to request textbook delivery or schedule a pickup. All the details are available at: http://bookstore.tulane.edu
Help Your Student Protect Their Splash Card
The Splash Card is essential for campus life. It grants access to dining, residence halls, transportation, and more. To help your student avoid card damage:
Recommended:
Use a plastic or rubber card holder that fully covers the card. These are available at the Tulane Bookstore.
Avoid:
Bending, punching holes, or exposing the card to heat or water
Storing the card in a phone case with wireless charging
Getting Around Campus: Shuttles & Transportation
Tulane offers convenient transportation options for students:
Shuttles run between the uptown and downtown campuses
Airport transportation is available during designated breaks
Students can download the Passio Go app for real-time shuttle tracking
On-demand rides are available during operating hours within service boundaries
A valid Splash Card is required to board
