Dear Tulane Family Member,

|
We know that June is a busy month in the family life of a senior graduating from high school. It is challenging for incoming new students to prepare for course registration at Tulane while they are celebrating graduation and beginning to enjoy the summer. Encourage your student to refer to the New Student Checklist often and read their Tulane email weekly to keep their preparation on track. You may follow along using their Navigator newsletter archive to find tasks that may need your input.
The articles below will provide key details to support them when needed. Topics in this issue include:

Welcome Message from the Newcomb-Tulane College Advising Team |
Dear Tulane Families,
Welcome to Tulane! As an advisor with over 20 years of experience in education, I am excited to help lead the Newcomb-Tulane College Advisors who will support your student during their time at Tulane. As Director of College Advising, my role is to support students, advisors, and campus partners through the Newcomb-Tulane College (NTC) Core Curriculum while assessing academic options, policies, and support resources.
Our advisors are ready to meet your students this summer to complete their fall registration. Information on how we manage registration for new students is on our Incoming Student website. Over the summer, we will post new communications and information as it becomes available.
Your student has been tasked with beginning the First Year Student Modules in Canvas. When they complete their Registration Prep Survey in the Advising portion of their module, they will receive an email to their Tulane email from College Advising inviting them to make a mandatory advising appointment between June 1 and July 30. Students must register for an appointment. At their appointment time, their registration access will be activated so they can make changes while they meet with our advising team.
A few helpful notes as you support your student through registration from home:
1. Review our Family Programs webinar, Supporting Your Student Through Academic Planning and Course Registration, held on May 28, 2026.
2. Please ensure your student has engaged in the online modules set up by our First-Year Experience Team.
3. Summer advising appointments are for students! Support your student post-appointment and when they adjust their schedule later this summer.
4. When searching for classes on the schedule of classes, your student should keep in mind that what is available on the day of the search may change by the day of the appointment. The advising team is keenly aware of which required classes are full and will continue to work with college leadership to meet the real course needs of first-semester students.
5. We have placed an advisor registration hold on all students with June or July meetings. These holds are lifted on the day of the student's appointment.
6. Students will have 72 hours to make schedule changes before their registration access closes again. All students will have access to schedule changes again later this summer.
7. It is always advantageous for students to have several interests and backup course ideas written down before their appointments. We may use these in their fall semester schedule or plan it for a future semester. Either way, it helps us get to know your student.
8. The advisor that your student meets with this summer may not be the advisor your student works with later this fall. However, our advisors are a team, and we are all here to support everyone throughout the summer.
Thank you!
Heather Cooper (she/her/hers)

Move-In Mailing & Shipping Services
Around mid-June, Tulane Mail Services will send a detailed instruction packet for mailing and shipping belongings to campus to all incoming new students' permanent home addresses. The same instructions are also being emailed to students' Tulane email addresses in mid-June. The instructions are customized to include each student's Tulane mailing address.
Dining Plan Portal Opens June 2
The dining plan portal will open for incoming students on Tuesday, June 2. All first-year, second-year, and third-year students are required to enroll in a dining plan. Students should review the details of each dining plan, including the contract and associated dates. If students do not review their dining plan early, they will automatically be enrolled in the Unlimited Plan. Please note that Friday, August 21, is the last day students can change their dining plan without paying additional fees. For more information, visit Dining Plans 101 - Tulane University.
