SLIDE into Accessible Documents

We recently came across a mnemonic to help make documents more accessible for everyone. The National Center on Accessible Educational Materials suggests SLIDE:

Styles are used for section headings — Chunk up material and use the Styles tool
Links are descriptive and meaningful — Control+K is your friend
Images have text descriptions — Provide alt text
Design is perceivable, with high contrast — No buff text on white background
Evaluation is used for improvement — Use built-in accessibility checkers

Mobile Videos on VoiceThread

Video download options as seen from iCloud. Most compatible option is highlighted.

VoiceThread is a great tool for having discussions or providing feedback around a piece of media. Users can upload a graphic, slides, or video and attach comments to them. Often, learners are recording on their computers using a webcam. But what about when they need to be more mobile?

Smartphone cameras are now advanced enough to record cinema-quality 4K video. While that’s awesome for aspiring content creators, those files are a bit much for our humble VoiceThread platform. Therefore, we’ve created a guide explaining how to make sure your smartphone video is compatible with VoiceThread.
