☀️ Tips for a De-Stressed Summer ☀️
|
Below are a few tips to help you de-stress and make the most of your summer. These are simple ways to take care of yourself as you finish the quarter strong!
|
- Get Out and Get Active
-
Now that the weather is finally warming up, it’s a perfect time to get active outdoors. No need to be confined to Ratner, unless that’s your jam, of course. Student Wellness has a Sunny Spots map with places to soak up some peak sunshine. Going for a walk, run, or even just stretching outside can be a great way to relieve some of that stress.
- This past Saturday also marked the start of the annual Millennium Park Summer Workouts, which offer free Yoga, Pilates, and Zumba classes. It’s a great way to find community and break a sweat!
- Immerse Yourself in a Creative Outlet
-
Especially with classes wrapping up, hopefully you’ll have more time to lean into the creative hobbies you love. Whether it’s drawing, baking 🎂, or anything else, spending time on your hobbies can be a great way to de-stress and separate yourself from the daily grind. Don't forget to check out Student Wellness' Pet Love on May 20th for a chance to de-stress with some adorable dog cuddles.
- Spring Cleaning
-
If you're anything like me, your desk is probably an absolute mess. Throughout the quarter, it can get harder to keep things picked up and prioritize having a clutter-free, relaxing space that supports your well-being. After classes and finals are over, try packing away all of your materials and starting with a clean slate!

| How Pressure and Stress Can Affect Performance
|
As the quarter comes to a close, it can feel like everything you’ve learned is suddenly bubbling up to the surface. With 30% finals coming up in a week 😟, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and fixate on how you’ll perform. This TED Talk explores how pressure affects the brain and why, even after extensive preparation, nerves can sometimes cause us to make mistakes at the last minute.
The video highlights examples from sports, public speaking, and other high-pressure performances to show how even experts can struggle under stress. It explains how overthinking and overanalyzing can lead to rumination, taking up mental space that could otherwise be used to focus on the task at hand. Most importantly, it offers practical tips for staying grounded and performing at your best leading up to a big game, test, or major life event. Click below to watch!
