The Birth Control App wins the 2023 Renaissance Women’s Summit Student Pitch Competition:

Owen Graduate School, Julia Schuller and Danielle J. Miller, M.D., co-founders of the Birth Control App, won first place at the 2023 Renaissance Women’s Summit Student Pitch competition. The Birth Control App is a digital women's health company on a mission to improve the standard for women's health.
“I think having an event like this really highlights the opportunities that Vanderbilt University offers and all the supportive folks in the community and beyond,” said Miller. “ We're thrilled to be a part of it. It's great to have women supporting other women, for the good of all humankind.”

Wond’ry launches Climate Innovation Accelerator to help Nashville small businesses and nonprofits advance climate-ready solutions
The Wond’ry, Vanderbilt’s Innovation Center, has launched the Climate Innovation Accelerator program, adding to the depth of its climate-focused programming. The accelerator is co-created and led by Jaclyn Mothupi, director of social innovation at the Wond’ry.
“Our team at the Wond’ry created this accelerator with the aim of telling a new story by widening the lens on who engages and has access to resources in the realm of sustainability,” Mothupi said.

The Wond’ry, Vanderbilt’s innovation center, collaborates with IBM to equip learners for STEM-related careers
The Wond’ry is working with IBM to equip Vanderbilt community members with no-cost STEM education and career readiness resources through IBM SkillsBuild, a no-cost education program focused on underrepresented communities, that helps develop valuable new skills and equitable access to career opportunities in technology fields.
“Bringing these kinds of accessible resources into our programs provides crucial support to our students, faculty, and staff by fostering discovery and importantly, application of their innovative work and ideas,” said David Owens, professor of the practice of management and innovation and Evans Family Executive Director of the Wond’ry.

TFC Summit was a success!!
On Saturday February 18th, The Wond’ry Social Innovation team partnered with the TFC Annual Innovation Summit to host four Build Your Social Innovation Toolbox sessions for undergraduate students. The activities placed the students in the drivers seat of Design Thinking, equity centered design, and systems mapping.

Interested in running a design sprint in your organization but don't know where to start?
Enroll today in the Design Facilitation Certification program at the Wond'ry!This five-week practice-based course combines facilitation skill development with a focus on design thinking exercises.
Participants will have opportunities to run exercises, receive feedback and build a workshop. Starting on March 22nd, the course will meet on Wednesday evenings from 4:30-6pm on the 3rd floor of the Wond'ry.

The Health Care IDEA Studio has had an excited month. We've opened our doors to undergraduate interns. We facilitated an innovation workshop for the VUMC Resident & Fellow Health Equity Elective. We collaborated with the FAB Lab to put on two Dignity-Centered Hospital Gown Re-design workshops. We also started alpha-testing with select users for the Health Innovation Virtual Exchange (HIVE) -- our homegrown platform to source problems from clinical environments, collaborate with other innovators across the institution, and submit/review previous projects to ensure iterative progress. The Wond’ry Internship Network (WIN) provides a platform for undergraduate and graduate students from Tennessee-based institutions of higher learning to reach their inner innovator. Students can explore their passions by choosing between a variety of opportunities within one of the many Wond’ry practice areas (Biomedical Innovation, Social Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Innovation Research & Design, Making, the Launch Incubator, and the Wond’ry itself). Being able to make things with hand tools and digital fabrication tools will help you quickly test ideas, clearly communicate concepts, and solve problems in your life. Hosted in the Wond'ry, this course provides an introduction to design thinking, computer-aided design (CAD), rapid prototyping methods, and the strategies to actualize your ideas.
