Greetings PTA leader,
As you are likely aware, Governor Abbott called the Texas Legislature to reconvene on Monday, October 9, at 1:00 p.m.
At the top of his six-item agenda is the call to provide education savings accounts for all Texas schoolchildren. Sadly, the agenda does not include increasing support for the 5.4 million public school children, or addressing the teacher retention crisis.
In less than a week, there has already been a flurry of activity. Combined, the House and Senate filed seventy-nine education-related bills, including five voucher (and/or education savings account) bills. We testified on your behalf Monday supporting Senate Bill 2 and on Tuesday opposing Senate Bill 1. Both bills were voted out of committee and heard on the Senate floor today.
Texas PTA believes nothing is more fundamental to making every child’s potential a reality than strong public schools. We will continue to monitor bills related to our legislative priorities, including the lead priorities, as they were not satisfactorily addressed in the regular session.
In the meantime, we need you to be that thunderous voice Texas PTA leaders and members have become known for! Please take a look below.
We appreciate you. We are proud to be working alongside you and on behalf of children and families across the state who choose public schools.
Sincerely,
