The countdown to 2025 has ended! Thank you to everyone who gave in 2024. We ended the year with a surplus, paid 100% and then some of our 2024 mission shares, gave a boost to our reserves so we are prepared for those unexpected happenings and expenses we know will come, and added some significant and meaningful increases in our 2025 budget.
Here are some of the things we are able to do in 2025 thanks to your faithful giving:
Increased funding for our music ministry
Increased funding for our quilt ministry
Increased missional giving
Increased funding for community outreach
Raises for our salaried staff and hospitality coordinator
Increased funding for building needs and maintenance
Funding directed toward capital reserves for future large-scale building expenses
Added Grace Place as a monthly line expense to aid in the administrative costs of the community served at Galloway
When we each play a part and give our own little bit, those little bits add up and we are able to accomplish more than we ever imagined. It is true we do best the things we do together. Over the next four weeks, you will hear about one specific way your giving makes a difference and be invited to make your own financial commitment to the mission and ministry at Parkway Hills in 2025.
Beginning this Sunday, January 19, PHUMC volunteers to Grace Place will share about this ministry taking place in Jackson. Our increased missional giving to Grace Place means that every time you give to Parkway Hills you are feeding hungry bellies, clothing individuals, and providing a safe, prayerful space for community to the most vulnerable among us. This is just one ministry that your giving makes possible.
In 2025, what part will you play at Parkway Hills? Join in on all the good things already taking place!

Wednesday night meals and programming resume next week, January 22. We hope you make plans to join us for our first Wednesday night retreat of the semester. Our chef extraordinaire Jean is planning soups and a baked potato bar for the menu. Reserve your spot here, or by tearing off the reservation strip in Sunday's bulletin, or by calling the office. Reservations are due by noon on Monday.
Following our meal, children (5th and under) will be making hygiene kits for Grace Place in the Garden room, Youth and adults will remain in the worship center and listen to a presentation on all things Grace Place. I bet you will be surprised by what you learn. If you have never joined us for a Wednesday night meal, we encourage you to attend this one to get to know your PHUMC family and hear more about the ministry at Grace Place.
And go ahead and order your book for our Wednesday night book club that will be March 19. Order a book online or buy at a bookstore and get started reading to be ready to discuss the book Life of the Beloved by Henri J.M. Nouwen.

In English, the phrase Becas con Bendiciones means “Scholarships with Blessings.” This month, your Communion gifts will supply scholarships for impoverished Honduran students.Though public school in Honduras is technically "free" to attend, there are uniform requirements, shoes, sports clothing for P.E. classes, matriculation fees, maintenance fees, and basic school supplies which put formal education out of the reach of many children. In January 2006 PHUMC's Wednesday night children's program studied United Methodist missions in Honduras, learning a little Spanish, sampling some Honduran foods, and discovering that kids in Honduras got only four or five years of schooling because their parents couldn't afford to pay for uniforms, school supplies, and fees. So our kids jumped in to help. They began collecting change at home and at church, made announcements to the congregation, decorated collection boxes for Wednesday night supper tables, and quickly raised $300 for "Scholarships with Blessings" to help kids in Honduras stay in school longer. Since that beginning in 2006, Parkway Hills has sponsored dozens of Honduran children. We receive thank-you letters and pictures from our sponsored kids every year which you can view in the foyer of the worship center. They are so grateful for our support! Last year we provided 18 scholarships! So far in January, the offering is $1,014.00. Your gift of $120 provides 100% of the school-related needs for a child in this program. Thank you for giving generously.
